  • Hey! I'm having problems with moving overlays and I hope you can help me .

    my script:

    EXT. TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT
    &ARIA spot 0.283 197 296 AND ARIA faces left
    &zoom on 178 72 to 280% in 0
    Aria starts think

    My character is waiting for a cab so I'm trying to get a cab overlay drive in front of her house. Every time I try to do it the overlay doesn't show up. I've tried making it bigger and everything, but still there's no overlay showing up.

    Thank you

      Where is the part of your script where you add the overlay in that scene?

      &overlay TAXI create
      &overlay TAXI to layer 5
      &overlay TAXI shifts to 0 298
      &overlay TAXI scales to .500 .500

      the placement is wrong because I can't even see the taxi.

      And when I tried EXT. TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT with TAXI then the taxi didn't move.
      I opened the app and tried to move it and scale it, but it was just standing there in one place.

      Create, layer, scale, and spot place the overlay by adding it next to the background name.

      EXT. TOWNHOUSE - NIGHT with TAXI to 0.500 x y in zone 1 at layer 5

      Then use the overlay shift command in your script.

  • Hi Dara, I'm sure i saw you answered this question already but how do you put characters lying on their side? If I put like this below my character flies somewhere and goes head forward. pls help

    INT. ANGIE BED - NIGHT

    @cut to zone 3

    @M spot 1.2 -252 289 in zone 3 AND M faces left AND M starts lay_asleep_loop

    @E spot -1.200 306 324 in zone 3 AND E faces left AND E starts lay_awake_loop

      When you invert the character upside down (make the scale size negative) the spot placement is different. Zoom way out to find your character, then spot place him on the bed.

      Then make that character face right instead of left.

  • Hi there, I'm wondering if you could show me an example on how to zoom in on a background. For example, to pan over to zone 4 then zoom in on a window upstairs. Thank-you for your time (-:

  • Hi Dara! Thank you for this thread! <3
    I have seen it in a lot of stories, where the character clothes and Background change but their animations remain consistent to what they were before the scene change. I was wondering if you knew the coding for this? (idk if I am making sense lol :P)

    Also, do you know how to code characters into a TV screen?

      Just change the scene and position the characters, but don't have them do an action.

      What do you mean by code a character into a tv screen? Do you mean with overlays, or just make the character smaller on a tv screen background?

  • Here's where I'm having a problem..
    I'd like the scene to start right where I zoomed in on "Preston's" face. (Similar to how the intro of "Maid For You" is) But when I plug this in, the scene starts & you can see them getting into position beforehand. Can you help?

    @transition fade out black 2
    EXT. SMALL ALLEY PARIS - NIGHT with effect LIGHT RAIN
    @PRESTON enters from right to upscreen right
    Daniela enters from left to upscreen left
    &zoom on 575 362 to 307% in 0
    &speechbubble is 151 194 to 100% with tail_top_right
    @cut to zone 2
    @transition fade in black .5
    PRESTON (talk_arms_crossed_loop)
    bla bla bla.

    The preview still starts elsewhere, any ideas?

      Your zoom is set in zone 2 but you changed the zone to "cut to zone 1"

  • how to make the two characters sharing one screen,,like scenes that they are talking over the phone..or just to show what they are doing in the same time..if you get my point..thanks

  • Hey Dara.

    I wanted to ask if you knew how to change the color of a choice? I´ve seen some stories have a choice with a yellow color instead of blue and I wondered if you knew how I could make some of my choices yellow too.

      For the gold color, you'll need to put <PREMIUM> right in front of the choice name. For a darker color, put <GREEN>. To "lock" a choice, put <LOCKED>.
      Code:
      choice
      <PREMIUM> "Gold choice" {

      } <GREEN> "Darker color" {

      To correctly code dialogue, it looks like this:
      Code:

    • Dara Amarie
      Dara Amarie commented
      Editing a comment
      If you had your readers customize the character, then the easiest way is to give your readers another choice to change them back (trying to change it back yourself would be really complicated, especially since no one uses gains in the customization codes). If you didn't let your readers customize, then just use the codes "@CHARACTER changes mouthColor into Color" and "@CHARACTER changes hair into Hairstyle" to change it back to what you originally had.

      Keep adding "with OVERLAY" next to the background name.
      Code:
      INT. BACKGROUND - DAY with OVERLAY with OVERLAY in zone # with OVERLAY to % x y in zone # at layer #

      Or use the overlay animation create code that doesn't change the background:
      Code:
      @overlay OVERLAY create

      To remove the overlay without changing the background:
      Code:
      @overlay OVERLAY clear

      By using layers. Layer both the character and the overlay:

      Code:
      INT. BACKGROUND - DAY with OVERLAY at layer 1
      @CHARACTER moves to layer 2

      Or:
      Code:

      You can’t place a character behind the bar because it is a background and not an overlay. You’re gonna have to find and upload your own bar overlay and add it to the background, then place your character behind it.

  • Dara Amarie Thanks for the information, I have never worked with overlays, can you help me with another problem I am having, I am trying to add red cups to both of my characters who are at a bar, but for some reason the code @add prop to @character is not working (I know the names are supposed to be capitalized but I keep getting the error that @add Red Cup to @CHARACERSNAME is not a valid directing command, I am trying to figure out the code as well as the placement for the code (like does it go before dialogue) it is add after dialogue? I also was wondering if there is a way to have a character reaction without have to have dialogue that is also another problem I am having... sorry for all the questions I am doing my first story and I have battled over what to start with for awhile. I appreciate your help.

      There shouldn't be an at sign right in front of the character name. The code looks like this:
      Code:
      @add Prop Name to CHARACTER

      The code needs to go before the dialogue.
      To have a character do an animation without talking, it's simply this code:
      Code:
      @CHARACTER is animation

      If you'd like to learn more about directing commands, you can read the Guides in the portal. They have everything you need to know.

  • I"m having problems with spot directing. I found a very helpful post that talked about it. But when I preview the scrip on my phone I don't see any changes. When I'm on the portal I can see the changes. Can you help?

      So when you use the portal previewer, your characters are in their correct spots, but in the app they're not even there? I think I saw some other people who had this same type of glitch. Do you get any script errors? If not, try submitting a ticket.
