    • Hey Dara! Thanks for offering your help
      I'm having a little trouble with a small section of my episode. Usually, I have no problem with fading transitions, but for this transition, the two characters and the set keep appearing BEFORE the fade in transition (when tested on the app). My question is where should I put the @transition in my script to have the characters placed and actions started before the transition begins. Here is where the issue is:

      Zeus exits left AND ZEUS is run_athletic AND HEPHAESTUS exits left AND HERMES exits left AND ARES exits left AND ARES is run_athletic_offset AND DAW exits left AND DAW is run_jog
      volume music 0 3000
      @transition fade out black 3
      EXT. JUNGLE PAN - NIGHT
      @cut to zone 3
      Zeus stands upscreen left in zone 3 AND ZEUS faces right AND ZEUS is idle_wounded AND DAW stands upscreen right in zone 3 AND DAW is idle_terrified
      @transition fade in black 3
      @set hsl 0 -8 -25
      @DAW changes into DAWN1

      Thanks so much!

        You need to use & instead of @ when you want characters placed in the scene while transitions happen.

        &CHARACTER stands upscreen left
        &CHARACTER2 spot blah blah
        @transition fade in

    • Dara Amarie Can I make the characters do an animation, but don't move? I've seen that in dripping Mascara by GenevieveM ... I think it has to do with pausing and timing, for example in this picture; the characters are supposed to finish the animation but they are just frozen... She did that also with the PHOTO FRAME overlay, two characters were kissing but they didn't move... I'm sure it's not a screenshot so if you can, please help me! thanks a lot...

        If the characters are in mid animation, then it's a background she made out of screenshots. If it's the end of an animation, then she placed the characters offscreen, made them do an animation first, then placed them onscreen once they finshed the animation.

    • Hey Dara,
      I've got a problem with using gains.
      I've read somewhere that you can use gain so that choices you made in one chapter means something for another chapter.
      So if the reader decided to tell A or B in chapter X, then the MC will react in a certain way in chapter Y depending on what the readers chose in chapter X (A or B).

      Do you know how to that? :-)

        I've already read that post (and learned a lot from it!), but if I try to use it in a different chapter, it just skips that part over, when I try to play it.
        I have already reset the story progress, skipped to the chapter where the gains first comes in, then played until the next chapter, when I want to use the gains again

        Are you adding your gains correctly and using the exact gain name in the if/elif/else code correctly?

    • Hey, Dara. I need help. I'm trying to change my MC's hair into bald and her eyebrows color for LL. But for some odd reason I get an error saying "No hair Bald exists" and a warning saying "Sofia changes eyebrowsColor to Black Dark is not a valid directing command. Did I do something wrong? (Here I'll give you where I got the error off my script.)

        Unfortunately you can’t have a character change into the hairstyle “bald” because the system doesn’t recognize it as a hairstyle. The only way to have a character be bald is if you change the hairstyle to bald in the portal.

        You put “to” instead of “into” for the eyebrow command.

        Ah thanks.

    • Hi Dara!

      Question on if/else statements, does each statement have to have this format

      if {
      }
      else {
      }
      or
      if {
      }
      elif {
      }
      else {
      }

      Or is it possible to make this format work?

      if {
      }
      if {
      }

      or
      if {
      }
      elif {
      }

      Right now, this is what I've got for the section I'm having issues with. The problem is that regardless of who the MC picks, my previewer keeps showing the "if" section as though they'd picked Sira. I highlighted the choice and the section that plays next in red. BUT, if the MC picks Hudson, the final section, marked in blue, still plays. I assume if the MC picks Sira, the blue section would still come up next, too.

        “if” is always first, “elif” in the middle, and “else” always last. When you test out gains, make sure you are resetting story progress.

        If you are writing your own Episode, and have the web previewer open, you can press "Print Screen" on most standard keyboards, and paste the picture into a program like Paint, crop it, and save it. You can attach the picture to a post in the forums.
        I don't know what kind of smartphone you might have, but I know on an iPhone, pressing the Home Button and On/Off button at the same time will take a screenshot of your phone. You'd have to either upload the picture to your computer from your phone, or email it to yourself and save the picture to your computer.

        Hope this helps!

    • Dara! Thanks so much for always answering all these questions.

      My question is, MC gets the choice to pick some new clothes.

      Except, I'm giving them the option to pick one of 5 styles, which each have three outfits in them.

      How do I code this so that the game will remember which style the MC picked and get all 3 outfits? Gains would be my best option, right?

      But I only want them to have the ONE style they settle on, not gain each one after trying them.

      I also am not sure how I'd format the future clothes change choice, either.

      I know I'd need to write out each style, but how to get the one they picked to come up?

        You have to add a yes/no choice inside each choice option, with a gain inside the yes choice.

    • Hey Dara Amarie, do you know how to make a character stands behind an overlay when the overlay is like "INT. CHURCH GARDEN OL - DAY with PARK BENCHES to 1.521 -36 -42 in zone 1 at layer 1"? I made the character move to layer -1, but all it did was make the character stand in front of the overlay.

        DragonGirl,
        This is answered in the guides.

        https://www.episodeinteractive.com/write/guides

        Advanced Directing Tips > Section 2.3 - Layers

        You can put the Overlay in layer 2, and the character in layer 1. I'd still go look at those guides, for a more thorough explanation, though.

        The overlay is already a part of the background so you don't need to add the benches overlay. You also don't need to layer the overlay either since characters stand behind overlays by default.

    • Hey Dara.

      I wanted to ask you how I can make a multiple choice?

      I want to write about the pasts of some of my characters but I want to give my readers the choice of which order they want to read the pasts in. I wanted it to be like when you customize your characters but I don´t know how to make it like that.

      I hoped you could help me.

        The only time you would put parentheses around an animation is when you use dialogue. If you're not using dialogue, it's just:

        You have to shift and scale the overlay at the same time. Start out with the overlay at a small scale size, then make the scale size bigger as if moves forward.
