  • Hi Dara! I'd like a zoom on the hands of two female characters standing next to each other to make it look like they're holding hands but can't seem to figure it out. Could you help me? Thanks in advance!

      That's a tricky thing to do since you'll have to find the right animation that makes it appear as though they are holding hands. What might work is having both characters do those reaching animations, spot direct them so that their hands are touching, then zoom in on the hands. Then when you zoom back out, spot place your characters back in the positions they were before.

      When you use gains and test out your story, you have to reset story progress.

  • Hey! So I've noticed in a few stories that I've been reading, that it has a character blushing? Is that like a prop or an overlay that is given to us or do we need to make our own?

      It's the RED COP LIGHT overlay placed over the character's face.

      After the shades go up at the end of the first scene, it shows the first scene again before the shades go down and it changes into the second scene.

      The problem with shade transitions is that they always start from black then go into the scene (you want it to start from the scene then go to black, but it's not doing that). It would work if they had an "out/in_up" or "out/in_down" option so that you could shade out just like you do with fade out, but they only have "up" and "down" unfortunately. You're probably gonna have to use "curtain" instead of "shade" if you want to transition out of the scene.

  • Hey Dara, I am working on a story that uses the background, INT. PHILADELPHIA TIMES OFFICE - NIGHT, and I was wondering if there was anyway to get a character to go behind the desk? If not do you know where I could maybe find someone who has made it an overlay that I could use? Thank you for your help!

  • Hello Dara!

    Do you have any knowledge regarding consequences that rely on multiple factors? I've been trying to do this in my story, and I've got it working on only one of two occasions. I can't really figure out what's wrong with the second one.

    First occasion:

    Code:
    if (MALEREPORTER < -1) {
    gain BAD_INTERVIEW

    / dialogue

    } elif (MALEREPORTER > -2) {
    if (ACCEPT_INTERVIEW) {
    gain GOOD_INTERVIEW

    /dialogue

    } if (REFUSE_INTERVIEW) {

    /dialogue

    }}
    This one seems to be working as intended. I know the coding is not optimal, but I don't want to mess with it as I'm afraid I might mess it up!

    Second occasion:

    Code:
    if (RUDE_TO_COSTAR) {

    /dialogue

    } elif (RUDE_TO_COSTAR) {
    if (THANK_COSTAR) {

    /dialogue

    } elif (THANK_COSTAR) {

    /dialogue

    } else {

    /dialogue

    }}
    Unlike the first occasion, where GOOD_INTERVIEW and MALEREPORTER > -2 would both work together to come to that conclusion (considering they wouldn't work separately as BAD_INTERVIEW = also accept interview and MALEREPORTER > -2 = also the case for refuse interview), the same doesn't seem to be working for the second occasion. I'm pretty sure it's coded exactly like the first occasion apart from the fact that there are 4 possible options instead of 3, so I can't figure out why it doesn't work. If both RUDE_TO_COSTAR and THANK_COSTAR are acquired, it will still still use the dialogue for simply RUDE_TO_COSTAR and disregard the intended dialogue. I hope it's not too confusing, but you seemed very knowledgeable so I hope you'd be able to help me out! The only difference I can see is that in the first occasion it's the point and gain system working together, and on the second occasion it's 2 gains, but I'm not quite sure how that'd affect anything. Thanks in advance!

    P.S. I am using the web previewer.

      You can't use the same condition twice in one if/elif/else code, otherwise it confuses the system since there are 2 of them, so it just ends up going to the first one in the code. One condition should only be used just once in an if/elif/else code. If you want an outcome to happen between 2 conditions (like combining them), you'll have to put another if/elif/else code inside of that if/elif/else part.

      Code:
      if (RUDE_TO_COSTAR) {

      if (THANK_COSTAR) {
      [dialogue for RUDE and THANK]
      } else {
      [dialogue for just RUDE]
      }

      } elif (THANK_COSTAR) {
      [dialogue for just THANK]

      } else {
      [dialogue for else]
      }

    • Is there a way to make a solid black background "flash" kind of like you are making your main character blink. I have a scene that I'm writing, where my MC is sitting at her desk, she is supposed to be studying so the bg is of a desk. She starts falling asleep. Is there something that you can do to make it appear from the reader's perspective that she's falling asleep? Would that have to be an overlay maybe?

        You'll have to create 2 black overlays, one at the top and one at the bottom and make them shift up and down.

    • Someone, help! I'm trying to write a story & in the beginning, I'd like for the reader to choose between three characters. After they have chosen their character, I need to put whoever they chose in the story. What's the best way to achieve this, in the most simple way possible? Do I use gains? Or goto? If so, how do I go about this? Do I have to write 3 separate stories?

        You would still have to make them “walk”. Anytime you want a character to move you have to use a walking command.

        You’ll have to find a shooting star overlay and shift the overlay across the screen.

        Anytime you get the error message telling you that there is a missing bracket but you checked and you have all the brackets, then the real error is inside those brackets and the system just gets confused. So you'll have to look very carefully to find where the error actually is.

        In your case, this is the error inside the "Take a power nap" choice. You might have accidentally pressed enter after &
