I don’t understand why you relate freedom of speech and press to Episode changing the guidelines. I’m sorry, but your whole point doesn’t make sense to me.
I don’t understand the mentality of “change the age limit to fit the content”. Episode has always been a PG-13 app, they just werent strict enough in regulating the content that was produced in the app. And for that reason, the guidelines needed to change to make sure Episode followed the ratings presented by their host stores (App Store and Google Play).
The idea of creating a mature app has come up many times and has been addressed by episode themselves who are considering doing this. If every author wants to create mature content, they can do it on that app if and when it gets released. Otherwise, using the “children are exposed to mature content anyways so change the guidelines back” excuse isn’t working and literally makes no sense.
I asked for review within 2days after anouncment. I am pretty sure my story is OK because it is not mature themed. But I wanted to be sure. Also my story always after releasing new chapter jumped among the top 100 in the fantasy section… And thay said stories under 100will be revised automaticly.
Well the result is 0. I didnt got any feedback so far and as many other stories you cant see it at all in the fantasy section. So no new readers can find it now.
While on the other hand I noticed in trending section story with less than 3k…I know the story it was always ranking much lower than mine… So I guess it made it to trending only because of this mess.
It feels realy unfair to me. As a begining writer I have no other posibility to get the story to new readers than being seen on the app…
Epidode had in this very bad judment if thay thought one month is enough for such big changes. Also it was episode itself who was encouraging authors to ask them for review proclaiming thay have hired extra stuff for the reviews…
I always respected episode and its rules (dispite I personally do not agree with some) because I have seen episode acting profesionally. But what happened now has nothing to do with beig profesional. It is obviouse episode had no idea what thay are going into with this change and it caught themself totaly unprepared for thay own ideas…
If mine story which requested review so early is still not checked and back visible on app than how long it will take for the rest? Year or two?
Sorry but making the stories invisible just because YOU failed to check them on time is totaly unfair to the authors.
Honestly, I really wouldn’t worry too much. I don’t think it’s going to dramatically affect how many reads you get. Just be patient and relax. You can still do promotion on the forums and on social media to reach new readers so don’t stress too much!
That is not true unfortunatelly. Most readers are common users of the app who even do not know there is forum… Forum is mostly used by the one who themself try to write a story. And Because we ware always shooted up with new chapter release we got also lot of new readers who noticed the story because simply it was high in the section…generaly with every new chapter I normally got mor reads that i got with the last one signicating we are getting new readers every time. But now after last update this havent happened and it is pretty obviouse new chapter was read more the less only by the old readers who know the story and have it among favorites.
The point is your stories still have a fanbase. In time, when your stories are added to the trending lists, it may welcome many more new readers, but right now, there’s nothing we can do but wait.
That wasn’t technically a response that I received. My ticket was replied to almost immediately saying that they would add me to the queue of requests and that I would be contacted if there was anything that needed to be changed. Then after Liz said in the FAQ thread that people would start getting emails if their stories were in the clear, I received that email the day after the guidelines update went into affect
No one is saying you don’t have a freedom of speech. The app was originally designed for 13 year olds and still remains that way. You don’t expect them to allow certain topics be discussed. Plus, the guidelines aren’t that drastic as everyone says. Just bleep out cursing, no nudity in covers, don’t talk politics (why would you want to anyway?), no suggestive themes. Point is, adults and young adults weren’t the target audience, so it makes sense what episode is doing.
I wasn’t telling you how to feel. I was telling you to be patient because it really isn’t going to dramatically affect you. You’ll always have the chance to bring in new readers. If you want to make a start now, promote on the forums and Instagram, because you’re still reaching people.
Seriously, I feel like Episode isn’t even considering everyone. Only the younger readers, what about the older ones? I’m sure they want to be able to read/write a mature story.
i’m just curious what happen to story that publish after 10 Oct, are they immediately on trending shelf or they are in the back of the line? Can someone pls answer this. thx
Hm, the only emails I received were, one saying they have received my request and the other is to give feedback on how my request was handled but I hadn’t received that email so I don’t know whether I am in the clear or not!
lucky you. I am still without the feedback and becase my story is not visible on the app I assume it means it was not yet reviewed… It kinda dicourages me in publishing new chapters honestly.
