A talk: How many lines is too little and how many lines is too much?

I’m sure you all like the stories you have to give up your passes for a good, non cheesy and a lenghty story. You have to give up a pass for one episode and episode interactive is sort of avare. They made a minimum of 400 lines. However I think 400 lines is still too little to please the audiences.

What do you guys think? How many lines should be the minimum in a good story?

900, without branching.

I think it depends on if they’re using advanced directing, overlays, etc. Usually my episodes have around 8000-10000 lines, but that really depends on whether the overlay use is heavy and how much branching is done.

I’d go by scenes instead.
Maybe 6-10 different scenes is good for a story as an average.
I know the the average for each episode is around 15-18 minutes long according to some reviewers.

The bare minimum would probably be around 1000-1200 lines.

Great now I know how much to write. (And it’s going to be a nightmare -_-)

Write what you think is best for the pacing of your story! Read the episode once you’re done and think to yourself ‘Was it a good length’? If not, just go back and add a bit more to flesh out the storyline

Yeah i once tried making a sotry that lasts 1000 lines (customization last only a few seconds but takes up 1000 lines so I just added 1000 lines whenever there’s customization) and couldn’t make it to the third episode. But maybe it’s becuase I didn’t have a plot or any ideas for the story so I couldn’t keep making up things as it goes. I just said to myself “I’ll make a spy story … What’s it about? Spies probably …” In this story I’ve got almost everythign planned.

All of my chapters are around 2000-2500 lines and they tend to last for around 15-20 minutes depending on the speed you read at (I’m quite a fast reader). Unless you have a very engaging story line, I think it’s better to keep the chapters a little shorter to ensure that your reader doesn’t get bored! :hearts:

i’d say around 1000-2500 at the max, you don’t want it to go on for too long and bore readers. but than again quite a few people use advanced directing and that obvisouly would take more lines so, i think each chapter should atleast be 10 mins or more. the bare minimum wouold be maybe 600 lines id think.

I love short stories, I don’t mind 3-5 minutes, that’s just me because I am so impatient.

I’m reading a story on episode by one of the top writers on here, but the episodes are really short. I would understand if the episode was short and it had difficult overlays, difficult spot direction, lots of background characters, and advanced zooms. In that case, I would look past the shortness of the episode and appreciate all the work that went into it but IT DIDN’T!
I would expect someone with such a large fan base to make the episodes a little longer especially if it isn’t a very animated episode and lacks choices. Its almost as if they updated only to recieve a pay and not because they are genuinely doing it for their readers.
The storyline is great and I will continue to read it but I get aggravated reading such short episodes because it makes me feel like I’m wasting my ticket.
Personally, I feel like an episode should be at least 1200-1500 lines. Some may argue and say 800 lines but that episode I read felt more like 400-500 lines to be honest. (I said felt like 400-500 lines, I know the minimum is 800 lines)

How much lines do you think an episode should have?

Yeah sometimes it’s hard to get into a story when the episodes are so short and updates aren’t regular even if it is a good story

It’s a really difficult question.
If you include a lot of choices, you’ll automatically take up quite an amount of lines but that doesn’t necessarily make the chapter longer so I don’t think you can just set a suitable amount of lines.
That being said, I think a fair length for a chapter would be somewhere between 1500-3000 lines (without the lines that just take up space like choices).

I think it’s hard to judge using just lines since people write their scripts different. I don’t use any spaces except when I change to a new background and my episodes usually end up being between 2000-8000 lines. I time it so the episodes lasts between 10-15 minutes since most people seem to like that.
