— Having your super bad-boy-to-the-point-of-no-remorse Love Interest who constantly womanises the MC and shows signs of abuse as “strength” or “overprotective” is not a personality trait btw.
If you feel attacked it’s probably you
There are a lot of stories out there like this cough cough lust-centred stories with little DEEP character development and only focus on the plot. And for an interesting story you need to at least have:
A plot line that develops. -this leaves space for change and questions in both the reader AND your head. (Don’t be scared to change up your plot, just make it flow and work )
PROPER Character development: this should definitely include the MC no question and a bit of effort into the LI as well, that’s how we feel connections. Please don’t only tell the dramatic backstory that will only affect the plot and nothing else- make the LI our friend too! We wanna know and understand how they think, ya feel me?
Don’t get me wrong men can certainly start by being physically attracted to the MC first; but baby after 5 months your partner doesn’t see you hyper-sexually everyday he sees them, because if he loved her he would show, enough of the tell.
And yet again, if ur LI is a stereotypically abusive person who nobody seems to care enough about him to point it out or challenge it because he’s ”hot” or a big bad man boss leader, then read the first paragraph again.
Other than the slightly condescending tone, I completely agree Personally I like LI with a certain amount of attitude, but not to the point all they do is treat the MC like crap. I like banter, not abuse. If that makes sense lol

I remember mentioning this in another thread - since when did abusive and deranged behaviour become attractive?! I don’t understand how such “traits” attract readers.
As writers, it is so important to have character development, especially in a story with two characters (the MC and LI). So many just conveniently skip over to the lust filled attraction which leaves me confused as to why my character, the MC, is even able to stand, let alone fall in love, with a guy who is toxic and shows major red flags
Exactly! I feel like you can write a “bad boy” type of LI without making him an abusive, possessive assh*le. I love banter and enemies to lovers but it has to be healthy and there has to be effort and development from both the MC and the LI, I hate when the MC changes (especially if it isn’t character development and instead she just changes for the LI) and the LI stays the same and we’re supposed to love him anyway. Make flawed characters, absolutely, but don’t make them abusers and expect me to root for them.
Just before I continue, I’m using she/her pronouns for the MC and he/him pronouns for the Li because those are the genders where the problems mainly occur.
I also hate the whole thing where the LI calls the MC a nickname and the MC says “stop it, don’t call my that my name is _____” and the LI finds it so hot and keeps calling her that. Or the amount of times he’s just like “I want you and I’ll have you.” It’s honestly so creepy. Or what I see a lot is “Tell me you’re mine. Tell me you’re f*cking mine.” It’s so dehumanizing. And the MC will talk to a friend and maybe they hug or something and then boom the LI has to come in at that moment and then it’s the MC chasing after the LI getting him to forgive her. “I’m sorry, it wasn’t anything I swear!” and the amount of times the LI made the MC feel like she was nothing, and the MC blamed it on herself or forgave him instantly. It’s so disgusting smh
To be fair, I don’t even read them stories anymore, as they’re mostly linked to mafia and it’s just the same trope repeated a lot. The LI is just toxic and somehow intriguing to the MC, but I don’t get how? Alright, you might catch feelings when you see someone who makes you feel good for the first time (love at first sight). However, when they are just a complete womaniser, the feelings just fade away from the fact that they treat people including the MC like trash, and that they kill/use people in the wrong way.
No offence to anyone, there are amazing stories out there, but I actually think this needs to stop.
