Maybe it’s one of those things where the love interested convinced themself that they were doing it FOR the MC, and that they were truly in love with them, but maybe it wasn’t the case…?

I believe it would make more sense for J to not have powers, and they rely on their inteligence and manipulation to get them to their goal. Techinically J can still be involved in fights, since I’ve since loads of fights with non-powered people. (He could be good in self-defense, or experienced with dual swords)
