This is a touchy topic that I quite honestly see both sides to- the other thing to keep in mind is that the standards of society may have conditioned our minds to think the way we do- we can even go back to the Stone Ages. It wasn’t uncommon to see the breasts of cavewomen- not only for purposes in relation to fertility and taking care of their newborns, but it’s also suggested that there was more “freedom” with clothing for “normal activities”. I know things were obviously different back then, but clothing was hardly given a second thought because they just focused on survival. I’m trying not to get crazily off-topic, but new studies are suggesting that it may have been more common for the women to go and gather/hunt- or much more common than scientists once thought. It seems as though it wasn’t as much as a male-dominated society as some may believe. There were women leaders and all that, so society weirdly went “backwards” and became more male-dominated, and now we’re in this modern society and I guess we’re kind of in the middle of the scale. In addition, please be “mature” because some cultures in the world are less “restrictive” on clothing and the cover picture reflects that. Yes, it is very different than what many if not all of us see. However, we must be respectful of other cultures and their practices. Don’t pay as much attention to the picture as you should pay attention to the history provided.
Personally, I wouldn’t want to willingly go outside topless because I’m insecure and it personally makes me uncomfortable. Honestly, I don’t like seeing men topless when they’re running or when those old, sweaty guys are mowing their lawns generally because their bodies aren’t “appealing” (I praise them for doing work and exercising, but most people would prefer not to see old men shirtless). Even though I don’t “like” it, I also don’t really care because it’s not an incredibly huge deal and I therefore try not too judge too harshly because they’re entitled to do what they may please.
I think in the unfortunate society that we have developed into, topless women would probably not be accepted easily. I think society has been decompressed and conditioned for centuries to feel certain ways about topics such as this (for the most part).
At the same time (at least where I live) I’ve never seen topless men grocery shopping or doing normal errands like that? I’ll see them topless as they’re running on trails or mowing their lawns. I think it would be weird to see both men and women doing “normal activities” topless because it seems “unnecessary”? The only thing that I can think of are nudists beaches, where people willingly go. Like there’s models covering magazines with their naked bodies and I think that’s fine. There’s many (many) incredible modern and ancient art that shows the bodies of both men and women as forms of art, with/without any sexual appeals attached, and that’s also fine. I think the human body has been graced with more freedom compared to, say, the 1900s. We have come a long way in some aspects, but we’re also walking backwards in some aspects as well. It’s all in balance, I guess.

I personally don’t see men walking around public topless, but maybe it is where I live. And if I did, I’d feel uncomfortable (once again, maybe because of where I live). I’m personally glad that women aren’t as restricted in modern society compared to some other periods of time. I don’t know why women and men would want to walk around topless…? I once again think it’s “unnecessary”? It’s also stupid that women are defaulted to wear bras because there are so many guys with man boobs lmao plus they’re uncomfortable as heck for most women. I certainly don’t consider myself a die-hard “feminist” and I generally don’t go off on tangents about human rights, but I’ve been thinking about this thread since I saw it last night while studying for another test (yeehaw) and thought I’d say something. Unfortunately I think society as a whole has developed a lot of immoral “defaults” and it has plagued humanity. Yeah, I completely understand the “sexual appeal” aspect of this whole ordeal, but it’s unfortunate that we even have to consider sexual assault and such. It just sucks that the world is the way it is.

People should be able to do what they want/wear what they want for the most part- there should be limitations for everybody (if anything), not just women.
