Hey guys i’m trying to make an albino character with a blonde afro but i’m afraid people are gonna mistake her as a white person even tho i’m Literally 100% Black myself i Don’t wanna offend anyone
Is there anyway i can make the reader know she’s albino without actually telling them she’s albino?
Omg!
I have an albino person in my story to and I used the Afro!
I just had the mc explain she was albino.
Thats awesome! my cousin is albino and she’s really happy that people are making more stories about albinos cuz lets be honest here… they are ppl out here who doesn’t even know albinos exist like when she says she’s black people don’t believe her which is pretty sad but whatever
That’s so dumb that people wouldn’t believe her
IK thats why i’m tryna add more albinos in my story and muslim characters
That’s amazing!!!
Thanks
I’ve added albino characters to my stories. I’ve never mentioned them actually being albino (as most of them are simply bg characters), however I don’t think there should be anything to be offended about as long as you use the most accurate facial features to portray their actual race (such as lips and nose). It’s also important to keep their eyes and eyebrow color very light.
As long as you keep those things in mind, I don’t think you have anything to worry about with your character, no matter what race they are
Oh i feel like people will pay atention to her because she’s basically Mc’s Bestfriend and yes she does have the feature

Hmm, idk. Try giving your character features that are widely more perceived as “afro-centric” (Think wide noses and fuller lips).
Or you can put an author’s note. It might be too on the nose tho, in case you don’t want to be direct abt it.
People with Albinism may experience certain things because of their melanin deficiency, like astigmatism or light sensitivity. Maybe try slowly working something like that into your scene to tell your reader your character is albino without being too obvious about it.
Or give that character a sibling that doesn’t have albinism, so people can draw that connection?
Idk. Tbh, it doesn’t matter if your albino character “looks” black, bc people are going to perceive someone’s race however they want to perceive them at the end of the day. I have had people say I have to be “Hispanic” (that doesn’t even make any logical sense lol ) because of my facial features. And that’s just bc I don’t look stereotypically black.
Only because people will call you out for putting one in I would I have a disclaimer at the end and explain what they are or tell people to research on what they are. I had no idea they had existed until a few days ago.
Oh wow really?
Wow lol she does have black features and a darkskin mom
That is probably a “dumb white person” kind of thing I guess but yes. Someone brought it up to my attention a few days ago and with a quick Google search I saw what they were talking about but hey we learn something new every day.
Nah lol most people don´t know, i was surprised when my cousin was born too
and my mom explained to me
Well school has a good way of teaching us sh*t we will never use but geography or science or whatever never taught me this important piece of information.
I love this topic!!! I believe that you can successfully create an albino person from a melanated genetic background. Using the same features that melanated characters have, will solidify the nationality of what your character is. Here is an example:
And if you have people who inquire about the nationality/ race of this specific character… you can use this as a teaching moment!!!
