So, I’m going to publish my story, and I don’t want to include customization because it’s pretty important, but I’m afraid no one will read it if it doesn’t have it-
Almost no one likes to read stories with no CC

I personally think that if you really don’t wanna include CC you don’t need to. I usually read stories with a full CC but stories that don’t have CC have some sort of ‘Magical’ vibe to them
I agree with comment above.
Personally, I enjoy a story way more when I have access to customize myself, that way I have the illusion of me actually being in the story, but at the end of the day, your the author and you call all shots
but if your still stuck…then I suggest locking important features? (ex: skin tone, hair color etc…)
You can make it limited CC
I agree with the above in that there’s a major fun element in getting to customize characters. That being said, great stories are fun to read regardless of whether or not there’s any CC!
At the end of the day, your story is your work so it’s completely your call.
If you wanted a sort of ‘best of both worlds’ solution, I agree with locking the attributes you find most important. You could even just keep clothing or hairstyles as CC options - that way the readers who want some sort of customization get it, but your characters remain the way you want them.
I personally hate CC so I say to leave it out however a lot of people do enjoy it so there’s that. If how the characters look play a huge part in your story then I suggest no CC or Limited CC.
