Announcing Fantastical! Our June 2018 Creator's Contest

Same here. I don’t think it’s really necessary to have magical outfits or anything. I mean, you can just be creative and use what is there, right?

It would be easier to have them but I am excited about people’s creativity and see what they can come up with having to do without.

Would you enter? I mean, Wanderlust Academy is the first fantasy story that I fell in love with in the first scene! (or two).

It made me a great come back to the app, lol.

Dear @Liz,

I have a suggestion/petition that I am sure many other authors would support.

I suggest each contest is held in at least two categories: upper league for already popular authors (say, over 1K reads per entry/or over 1K followers) and lower league for aspiring authors (under 1K reads per entry/or under 1K followers). Otherwise, emerging authors with a low amount of reads even if their retention rate is high don’t really stand a chance against those who have already hundreds or even thousands of followers. Also, the higher amount of reads the popular authors get the less they are affected by anyone who drops out, while with small authors every abandoned read really damages the engagement rate.

If, say, there are 9 winners, why not reserve 5 places for popular authors and 4 for aspiring authors? Otherwise, people just starting out and struggling to find their audience for their amazing stories will find it extremely difficult to succeed.

While popular authors do write amazing stories and absolutely deserve to be featured, I believe that new gems should also be given a chance, especially because there are lots of great stories that are unfairly underrated.

Thank you very much for your attention.

What are story cards?

They are also called splash cards and they have messages to the reader informing them the story has sound or mature language etc.

Thank you. Why can’t they be changed?

Huh?

If I understand correctly, she’s asking why can’t the splash screens be customized. Instead of using Episode’s mature warnings, I believe you can create your own warnings. The process would be like uploading custom art and waiting for it to get approved.

Can you elaborate what you meant where they can’t be changed? Was that one of the contest guideline rules?

Oh ok. There is probably a concern that someone will want to change their splash or story cards just before the deadline and they won’t be approved in time and the story wouldn’t be able to be published.

Ohhhh okay that makes so much sense! Thank you all.

I’ve never entered my work for a contest before (actually I haven’t even published a story yet) so I’m hoping someone can answer my question. I had started writing a story before the contest was announced, and although it is based on a fictitious concept (involving mythical creatures and ideas), most of it is written as a realistic fiction. The ‘fantastical’ factor only appears in bits and pieces throughout the story, and is finally revealed completely at the end. Given that the prime focus of the contest entry must be a fantasy story, do you think this would qualify? Thank you for your help!

I think anything that has supernatural abilities/creatures would fit the contest theme. But I suggest checking out your story deeply. Over 3 people were eliminated because their stories didn’t fit the contest…

So excited!! Might enter, idk yet
