Announcing the Fairy Tales Contest!

Very excited for this ~ Some of my favorite books are spin-off fairy tales, and I can’t wait to see if anyone makes a fairy tale sci-fi a la Lunar Chronicles ~

As for ideas I have…

1. Cinderella as a detective, trying to solve a string of murders connected to her birth parents, with each of the episodes being a crime-of-the-week type deal featuring different spins on fairytales, very much like NCIS or CSI

2. Robin Hood as a modern hacker, stealing money from corrupt politicians and crime lords, and ending up working to expose the people he steals from

3. Red Riding Hood and the Wolf as twin monster hunters (not love interests this time, crazy, huh?), taking place in a more magic-infused modern setting. After the Wolf gets turned into a werewolf in a hunt gone wrong, he has to balance his identity as a monster hunter and monster, without exposing himself to his sister or any other monster hunters.

Number 1 sounds too similar to the show Grimm if you ask me but other ideas sound really cool x

I’ve actually never watched Grimm, I’ll have to check it out ~

It’s really good, the only reason I discourage you from your first idea is that Grimm is about a guy who is a police detective who finds out he is descended from the Brother’s Grimm and is tasked with taking down evil magical creatures, most of which are tied to various fairy tales.

So we can write about any mythology?

I think so, as long as it uses elements of an existing fairytale as well. But just on its own, no. Also: that’s funny, I have the a similar idea! Are you entering?

I just listened to the original one, it includes pregnancy, I was wondering if I could cancel that part out?

ofcourse you can, maybe go for a little bit newer one, not the disney one, and yeah original, its very NSFW

Are we still allowed to use stories like Cinderella, Snow White, and Beauty and the Beast even though there are Disney movies based on them?

Peter Pan is folk tale

yes, melani has said so.

Pregnancy is how the witch comes to know about the prince… its just a way to telling, If I replace it with another way, it should work…?
