I was trying to come up with something for Eros and Phyche but i’m going with a different idea now and HOLY SHIT I love that sm. Please tell me if you end up writing that!
I was thinking to rewrite the story of Orpheus and Eurydice.
Could it be possible with a point system to have a different ending than the original story? Or isn’t that allowed?
I would really want to see those stories because in many popular stories the original version is pretty disgusting. Some examples:
In sleeping beauty ,Aurora wakes up to giving birth bc “handsome prince” raped her.
In cinderella , there isn’t godmother but there is a tree and cinderella’s stepsisters cut of their toes and heels to fit.
In snow white evil queen wants to eat snow white’s heart.
In rapunzel evil mother (or wtf she is) makes prince blind and rapunzel is pregnant and she wandered around for years with her kids (homeless) until she found blinde prince
try going on google to search up any folktales of this kind!
Lana can we make the story a modern one too?
Yes you can. It’s your take on a classic, you can do what you want with it as long as the basis of your story is relatable to the classic
Alright, will do that!
@Melani3, love this idea! would it be qualified if we wrote it in the form of an anthology? as in, each episode tells a different adaptation of a fairy tale?
Can I PM my plot idea to someone that can tell me if they think it fits the contest?
well original fairytales all ware usually pretty brutal, only nowadays times changed them to be more soft and nice - for example, the sleeping beauty - the historical version in middle age was about that she falt asleep and the king found her and raped her. She got pregnant while still sleeping and was actually saved by the child who sucked out of her finger¨poisoneus splint which was holding her asleep the whole time.
its not about revriting the same story -you can have completly different endind. you can make cinderella to be boy with 2 brothers or make modern version of cinderella like the film A Cinderella Story os you can for sure change the ending.
If its less known, should we indicate somewhere what the original story is?
I thought the same but wasn’t sure… it’s a classic fairytale and I can say one of my favorite
If I can manage my on-going story, I will probably enter with a version of this
@Melani3 can we write about Banshees and other folklore creatures? There are numerous poems about Banshees and they are part of oral Irish folklore.
You mentioned that writing about Santa Claus is allowed, so would this not also count?
For my Peter Pan story, I want to include all sorts of magical creatures in Neverland, it’s gonna be an adventure story, going all over the place to find the source of why magic is slowly leaving Neverland and ripping it apart, what do you think?
If anyone is struggling to come up with ideas, TED-Ed has a great collection of videos about myths from around the world. The videos are animated with story narration. They are definitely worth checking out!

If the link isn’t working for you, you can search “ted ed myth series” on YouTube. It should be the first thing to come up.
Does your title have to start with “FT” or can "Fairy Tales " be somewhere in the middle
Hope this answers your question! ![]()
@Bakubro This is totally allowed! Neat concept.
@PamV18 Combining fairytales is allowed!
@agatya If you’re worried about no one knowing the source material, I highly recommend putting a “Based on: (story name)” in the description, or opening your story with info about the original! An obscure story will not be a disqualifying factor!
I’m still a bit confused because I wanna call mine “When Fairy Tales Collide”
But idk if its allowed
