I’m still not sure whether allowing readers to skip a minigame and get points would qualify as a gem choice. Does anyone know the answer to this question? Thank you!

I asked and the answer I got was no! It was seen as topping up points. Other mini game options seem okay though!

I want to write in a different genre for this contest, as I’m stuck with Fantasy. Should I write in a different genre as a more challenging, or just write in Fantasy as I’m pretty good at it.

Well, it happened to be a happy accident in my case. I wrote out plans for this story a while back when I first had the idea. When they announced this theme, I knew it would be a perfect fit. When Campbell was mentioned, I Checked it out and by happy coincidence my story already roughly followed his lesson on The Hero’s Journey. But not 100% . Think of it more as a guideline

I say stick with your strong suit for the contest, but try a different genre for a non-contest story.
BUT , if you want to live on the edge for the next few months, I say go for it. Exploring new genres is always fun and opens you up to the realization that you’re more capable than you give yourself credit. Nothing is more rewarding than that!

So does that mean in a mini-game, if a gem option allows readers to get the answer to the puzzle game I created is allowed as long as the mini-game is not related to topping up points but to continue to progress in the story?

If I’m understanding correctly, you can reveal the correct choice/give the answer. You just can’t SKIP the mini game and earn points. Basically there still needs to be participation in the mini game even if they have all the right choices revealed.
