Happy writing!
Hello!
Good luck everyone with your entries!
I also have a question. @Liz @Tory
So I have one unpublished story that fits this theme.
Is it possible to continue it and publish or write a different one but like a first part of it?
Also does the game points option counts as a gem choice? For example when you don’t want to play the game you can skip or earn max points by paying gems.
Kiki
Seems interesting. I might join. But i hate the gem choices tho
The gem choice requirement really isn’t fair to those of us (me
) that can’t afford gems. I know that personally, I won’t be able to read any of the entires. And really? We know how to use gems in our stories, we just don’t want to…
This would be a pretty cool contest without that requirement. I’ve gone back and fourth about entering, but unless they bring in a new, easy, and free way for readers to earn gems, I won’t be participating. It’s sad, I know how excited everyone was for the new contest
Does this mean the main character doesn’t have to be a “hero” exactly? They just need to go through their own call to action?
Correct. We want you to explore a heroic journey (think Campbell), so they should still have the Call to Action.
Could we also go a more villainous route, if the more villainous MC was the hero in their own story? Or would even villainous MCs who are actually the villain in their own story count too?
You could go the villainous route since technically the anti-hero’s journey is a form of the hero’s journey.
the part where it said “or find your way back home” meaning that if yr character is lost somewhere the main character need to have determination, confidence, etc to find their way back? Can we also add allies to help the main character return home or it’s just only the main character.
I mean, depending on the journey to find their way back, determination and some level of confidence may be required.
Yes, you can have allies to help your MC along the way.
Can the MC realize how their heroic journey has change them in later episodes? Or does it have to be in one of the 3 required episodes?
If you plan on the story being longer than 3 Episodes, that’s fine.
Are gem choices in mini games included in the gem choice requirement? As in like, gems to reveal the question that will get them to stop talking, or to reveal which choice is the right one, or to skip the mini game and gain the points, etc? As well as things like “oops I don’t remember the information that I need here, here’s a handy gem choice that gives it to me again”?
Let me get back to you on this one.
Does the MC need to be like an actual hero and do hero like activities? What can be considered as “heroic”? I need more dumbed-down example plots please lmao
No, they do not need to be an actual hero doing hero things. There are a lot of examples in film, TV, and novels where the MC is not a superhero. You want to look at the archetypal hero’s journey (Campbell) or the heroine’s journey.
Right, like can the MC be a regular person figuring out who they are in the world, or do they have to be a hero and do heroic things?
Both versions are fine.
so you tell me they can’t say gems for support in end of chapter
You can have a gem choice for supporting the author, but they will not count towards the contest requirements.
can you show the character’s call to action in the first couple minutes of the episode, but then the rest of the episode is a flashback as to why they need a call to action to find themselves?
I want to say yes b/c the flashback shows the world you’d be setting up that prompts a call to action.
can “peacemaker” fit this contest?
Please explain more. ![]()
Can the heroic thing be the main character saving someone from something or someone? Cause I have a story that revolves around that idea
Yes, that would also be fine, depending on how the saving is framed, but yes.
Could it be multiple main characters or strictly just one?
At least one, but multiple is fine.
Please explain which gem choices can be added in the story to make it eligible for this contest and which gem choices can be added but will not be counted in the gem choices to be eligible in the contest.
I will try to compile a list, but no promises at the moment. Would it be helpful to add it to the announcement?
how involved do the gem choices have to be in the story? can they just be bonus scenes at the end?
also if you have a one gem choice with two options, does that count? or does it have to be two separate gem choice moments?
@Tory Weird question. Can the “Call To Action” be forced? Like the character is initially made to do something for someone or their kingdom but then there’s a journey and character development along the way. Or does it have to be something they wanted to do willingly?
A refusal of the call to action is a part of many hero journeys, so I am sure it’s fine if the MC is forced into it.
interesting, I really like this theme. the gems requirement will be a bit challenging to work in organically, so I’ll have to do some research.
maybe I might actually end up entering, fingers crossed!
Thank you for answering Tory!
Thank you Tory! I look forward to the answer on mini games, whenever that comes.
I need more dumbed-down example plots please lmao
The Wizard of Oz, The Goonies
When you have 4 unpublished stories that could work with this theme–
Is it ok if there’s no mentor character?
This is AMAZING!!!
I guess this contest will have lot’s of fantasy stories.
Some of them not all.
