Soo who here is doing a thriller/horror? Or a sub genre with them because I’d love to discuss the genre and your story as we write :)))

I am, but I’m a horror writer in general, not just for halloween. I don’t care about winning or a halloween shelf, I work better with a deadline

okay! just letting you know since some other people are entering for Halloween only

Same. I’m mainly a thriller writer . That’s what I’m going for this time. But your description sounded so good! Can’t wait to read it!

I agree with you tho.

But i wouldnt use the terms “big authors” or “small authors” even if its true but I prefer “Well known authors” and “Starter author”

However, if a big authors do enter the contest there are high chances they will win. Bcz of readers retention and their reads and ofc, they know how to get the readers engaged with their story and all. With their folowing they can easily win the contest.
But, we are here to compete whether we win or not.
Even though, we dont win but may get a little recognition from it? Bcz our story will determine whether we get more readers or not. Even if we dont win our story will still shine and get readers :revolving_hearts: thats what matters. :relaxed:

With all due respect, I feel that the hate on bigger Authors is not necessary. They started out small, too. They worked hard to get to where they are, and I’m not saying that smaller authors haven’t worked hard too. The majority of big authors have been learning and working on episode for 5+ years and they also took the time to learn and grown. Just like we are all learning and growing.

If smaller authors focus on other’s achievements then they wont learn and grow their own talents or motivations. Work hard and promote like crazy, learn and always improve. Take critisism as an opportunity to grow, instead of demotivation. And enjoy what you create. That’s how you get your retention and reads up.

Please be kind. Big or small authors, we are all hard working humans trying to make it here.

While I’m not about to wade into all that has been said back and forth about the merits of entering this contest and possibilities of winning based on your following, I would like to point out one thing that seems to have been lost in the discussion:

Having the best retention does not mean you win the contest. Retention is only important for getting your foot in the door, so to speak. Having a high enough retention gets you passed the initial round of cuts. As I understand it, so long as you hit that retention benchmark you move on. It’s not just the top 20 retention scores or whatever. Beyond that, whether or not you win is determined by the quality of the story as determined by the grading rubric and whether or not there are any issues that may lead to it being disqualified. Your retention score doesn’t need to be the among the highest. It only needs to be good enough to get you to that point.
