Announcing the REVEAL Writer's Contest!

Agh. I don’t know if Half-and-Half or Shark Ticket would be the best for this

So it has to be in the drama genre: Looks at my fantasy concept with a big reveal are you sure?

Publishing date is a day before my birthday lol (I’m 90% sure I’m joining idk

Would have entered, but the restriction to the Drama genre is totally off-putting and down right artistically constrictive. Very disappointing. And with such a theme, a fantasy adventure would be fitting, a crime mystery, a sci-fi, an alternate universe, anything.

Totally agree with this. My story idea was a mystery as that is my go to genre but I’ve flipped it so it is now a drama story so hopefully I can get it done :crossed_fingers:

Best of luck to you! x

Thank you.

Are you going to enter?

Unfortunately not, I have a horror in the works that I might publish around Halloween instead, when everyone is feeling spooky!

That’s a good idea. I’m surpriesed that this wasn’t a horror theme

Would you still read my entry if it didn’t have a love interest or romance?

@Melani3 if I may ask more questions…

  1. Does the plot have to be driven by the reveal itself, or the circumstances presented by the reveal?

For example, Twilight and Harry Potter both have big reveals, but they handle them differently.

Twilight is more emotion-driven as the characters deal with the implications of the big reveal.
Harry Potter is less about the fact that Harry is a wizard, focusing more on the other stuff that comes with being a wizard. If Harry Potter were a drama, would its premise qualify for the contest?

  1. Does the reveal need to come all at once, or can it happen slowly?

Example: global alien invasion. MC finds a crashed alien ship in ep. 1 and learns in ep. 2 that there are more ships all around the world. Is something like this allowed?

if it has a really good plot and good basic directing, i’d read it

Maybe this is because I rarely read from the romance section…
Romance is kind of a side thing for me, and I don’t like when romance distracts from the plot.

So if your story doesn’t have a love interest, great! Give me action, schemes, mystery, and of course… drama!

Hello!

All of the examples you’ve given are valid examples of a dramatic reveal driving a story. I’d say Twilight is a particularly good comparison because it uses its reveal (vampires and werewolves are real and they’re all in love with Bella!) to heighten the drama and tension in the story.

The aliens example is also good because it relies on the reveal both of aliens being on earth, and then MORE aliens being on earth.

Are we allowed to enter more than one story? I am planning to co author a story that will be entered into the contest, but I also have a solo book that fits the requirements for the contest. Am I only allowed to enter one?

You can only submit one story for a contest.

I was a bit hesitant about writing a drama but I think I’ve got it figured out  (hopefully)

Good luck to everyone entering! :blob_hearts:

I have the same question lol. Did she reply back?

Yes she did! It just needs to be revealed within the first 3 episodes.
