Announcing the Unexpected Writer's Contest

Well, you can always change the genre after the contest. I do that a lot. My entry will be a fantasy story, yes it will focus on love, but still a fantasy story.

True haha :upside_down_face:

Question about the gem choices,

If I have ‘pathways’ such as choosing your LI’s gender…

Technically one gem choice is two because its put for each pathway but like would that count or no would I need to add ‘4’ to make up the 2 per pathway.

Edit: So basically if I take the female LI route, and there is a choice of whether you throw LI under the bus or like save their a*s from landing in detention, that would count gem choice wise.

But since it would also be on the male LI route would it count as a second one? or no because its the same choice or because like they arent on the same pathway?

Given that you need 2 gem choices per episode and different people would get different choices, depending on branches, it would need to balance out equally, so two gem choices per branch. I entered the last contest and placed 2 gem choices per set of branches to make sure there wasn’t one missing :slightly_smiling_face:

It has never been published. I literally posted it the first time a few hours before the contest. So now it wil be disqualified just because it was a few hours early?

I know, but by “posted” do you mean published?! Because it sounded like you were saying that you published your story on the same day that this contest was announced… but just a few hours prior to the actual announcement.

And if that’s the case, then it could go either way, since the timing wasn’t too far off. I’m not saying that your story will be disqualified, because only the Episode Team can answer that.
So your best bet would be to tag Tory and ask her directly… or message her, just to double check.

Okay, so I am planning something for the contest and I want to know for the gem choices, the reader can skip the mini-game (gem choice) and win and gain points; if they don’t want to skip, they can play it (no gem). Would it count as a Gem scene or something else?

i know! what part of the word “unexpected” implies romance?? feel like this could fit a good thriller/mystery story too . . .

I totally agree. I feel like you could craft something to fit the prompt under any genre. I would love another contest like “Clue” from a few years back that sprouted so many amazing mystery/sci-fi/etc stories. But, since the romance genre is what brings in the big bucks for episode, I’m not surprised.

:rotating_light: READ THIS UPDATE :rotating_light:

We heard what y’all had to say about the chapter requirement and/or the deadline as well as the desire for a shortened title.

After some deliberation, we’ve decided to make the following changes:

  • We have shortened the chapter requirement for this contest to be 3 chapters. The deadline will remain the same as it currently is.
  • The new shortened title is “UL: STORY TITLE.”

Updated the original post too!

What does the L stand for?

L for Love since it’s in Romance

That will remain the same. We aimed for a romance genre based contest given the shelf will run sometime around Valentine’s Day
