Annoying Racial Stereotypes

From the Asian side:

It’s like people just assume you’re smart because you’re Asian, and they just put that label on you every time you sit down at a table group. Everyone who gets mad because I’m not as smart “as I’m supposed to be” is about to get some smarta** response.

From the Hispanic side:

… I’m not Mexican, fam. And my dad isn’t a lazy bum who stole your job. Last I checked, he was the one delivering packages, hurting his back, flipping burgers, and going to school at the same time so that he can be successful managing ur money, Karen lmao

There’s been a surge in nazi-favoring vigilanteism in Australia recently and we’ve been looking at making such things illegal here too.

Oh my goodness I can relate so badly! I’m mixed too and I’m just presumed to be fully Asian, like I literally just told you I’m only half and they still say I’m fully Asian and think I can speak every language like Japanese, Korean, Mandarin etc :skull:
Literally had a comment to me around 2 years ago and the guy was like “What are you looking at with your ching chong eyes” 🥲

When they stereotype everyone according to hair colour such as blondes are bimbo. Well you can still be a brunette and still act one and vice versa, you can be a blonde but smart.

when people assume all the people of countries in asia are copies of chinese people-
LIKE ARE YOU OKAY DO YOU NEED TO GO THROUGH YOUR GEOGRAPHY TEXTBOOKS AGAIN?

You are so right about it! Well China isn’t the only country in Asia. Think about how Asia is one of the biggest continent in the world and this means that it must have a lot of countries residing in that continent. This makes me laugh because when I think of other Asian people such as Indians, Russians and Filipinos (although some Filos have Chinese ancestry but not all of them in fact some Filos have Spanish ancestry too!) will be classified as Chinese people! Seriously, you are Indian for example and then they make a prejudice that you act or a Chinese person! I don’t have anything against Chinese people alright, I just want people to realised that every country has their own culture and attitudes, yet similar but not exactly the replica. You know.

Well you can be a white but smart and vice versa. So we should not judge people based on their backgrounds.

lol yes- i’m actually South-Indian and i’ve had people in my country call Korean, Japanese, Mongolian, Filipino people Chinese just because they have mono-lids
it’s not even funny wtf

I mean geography was never useful. It taught me sh*t all about other countries. All we learned about was earthquakes and stuff similar to that. We should have better resources to learn with but these stereotypes are obviously not going to identify a whole race/ethnicity/country. I mean people lack common sense if they believe all of these. I know there are exceptions but to put everyone in one category. :woman_facepalming:

@JoannaKRain Same thing goes here, in Europe, every country has different ethnicities, colours and so on. That’s right! Rather than asking ‘are you from China?’ or ‘are you Chinese?’ you can just ask what nationality do you have because it might appear to be less offensive.

yep i know! it’s a global problem that’s extremely annoying-
especially since the covid 19 pandemic began east asians and chinese people are being harassed because it originated from china

@YourMom Gurl, everyone is different, you cannot expect every people of the same nationality or ethnicity to have the same body type. For example, not all Asians are skinny or thin and some are curvaceous. Trust me, every culture has their downsides too. Because in some countries, it is attractive for a woman to be curvaceous which is a culture, but why don’t we become an example to them that you are beautiful the way you are. I’m not here to make sermons towards you but I really encourage you not to change yourself because of your culture. In my experience, I was taunted for having fuller eyebrows and flat nose, but eventually I was thinking that everyone can be a model you know. These judgements are preferences are just the standard of the world.

exactly-
if we’re going to learn about other countries we should be educated about their country so that we can understand them better :skull:

Not sure if this counts but when people think that all English people are either chavs, roadmen or are posh and have met the Queen.

The stereotype that all black people eat kfc and watermelon. Like I literally dont eat kfc what so ever.
Also that black women can’t have long straight hair rather than a non-black person. Literally genes come in all types of forms, it’s just rare to see a black woman with that kind of hair form, but it’s possible.

OMG! This is honestly so true! The amount of foreign people who have asked me if I’ve met the queen is unbelievable. Also the stereotype that the British ALWAYS drink tea and not much else! I mean seriously. Lots of British people do drink tea but it’s definitely not the only thing we drink :joy:

Yeah, firstly I live hours away from London and secondly I don’t even like tea!

I also live hours away from London (For anyone who doesn’t know, London is where the Queen lives) but I’m alright with drinking tea :joy:

Well, yeah it not a good stereotype but it wouldn’t be a racial stereotype but a stereotype in british people in general. But I agree it is annoying, although a lot of girls in my school fit into the chavs stereotype. I certainly don’t and many others don’t either. And tea is bland, I have tried to convince people that it is horrible but some seem to disagree.
