Okay umm, so in my country, a “straight and slim nose” is very desirable. Parents can often be found asking their children to do facial exercises that would slim down their noses. Comments like “Wow! Her nose is so straight” or, “Damn, he got a pig nose” pass easily.
Another one, most people online automatically assume that I’m Chinese when I tell them that I’m Asian.

Everyone I know just looking at me saying I don’t like tea whilst they sit in their room full of empty mugs from drinking tea :joy:

It the worst when people “savour” their tea. It is already sh*t why would you leave it to get cold? :woman_shrugging: The only good thing about tea is getting the biscuits people put out when they have it.

Ok cold tea is even worse
The only time I’m near a cup of tea is when I’m dunking biscuits in someone else’s mug :joy:

It’s a common stereotype I have heard a lot in America.
If you’re Asian, you are naturally intelligent. Like people WTF, I am intelligent because I work for it and not because I am asian related. Not all Asians are intelligent. Also if you are Asian you can’t have hazel eyes, uhmmmm was there a fricking law made that Asians CAN’T HAVE HAZEL EYES!!??
I cringe when I hear people say these stereotypes.
Another one,
All Asians are small in height, uhmmm yeah no, I am 5’7 and I am asian related, and not all Asians are short, some of us are actually more than 5’5 so please shut up! Thank youuuu!

Yea, I absolutely hate the model minority myth in America cause all it serves is to drive a wedge between Asian Americans and other minority groups in the U.S.

The way I drink my tea is I make it, forget about it for like an hour, then drink it at room temp. I’m terrible I know lol

The other day I was talking to my parents about why I hate the beach. Their first questions were “Is it because your hair looks disgusting when you leave” (meaning curly because it probably got covered in saltwater) and “Is it because you get too dark and look like dirt?”. What was my answer? Because I had no one to talk to at the beach.

I hate that darker people are shitted on and treated less than, they’re human and should be treated as such.

Yea, colorism and texturism is such a serious and global issue. It sucks having comments like that directed towards you.

Right?! It’s sooo annoying.
There’s been many times for me too where people presume I can’t speak English and they act surprised when I talk, at this point I just played it out as long as I can to mess with them. The shape of my features are actually leaning more towards Eurocentric rather than Asian which baffles me since I’m treated as if I’m not mixed at all.
On the rarer occasions I’ve been mistaken for being Chinese, other occasions I’m mistaken for being Middle-Eastern Asian or Spanish, but the most common assumption is that I’m Filipino when I’m not.

My brain is thinking of a million different insulting comebacks to this already. :skull:

Funnily enough, when I’m in Asia, I’m mistaken for a white person, it’s only on rare occasions that I’m called mixed over there.

When I was in 9th grade, some girl asked me if I was mixed because I have light skin??? Was very confused. Also in middle school some girl touched my hair and was like “Why is your hair so ‘hard?” Same scenario happened when I was in 9th grade, except it was a guy and he referred to my hair as “nappy” instead of “hard.”

Indeed.

I hate it when people fetishize a race or ethnicity! It so weird and wrong. And most of the time it is for the appearance of kids. Like STOP.

Ikr! Like I’m all for appreciating different races, ethnicities, and cultures, but not for the wrong reasons :woman_facepalming:t4:

Also, sigh a long time ago, somebody got a book for everyone in the class. I’m not entirely sure why. Anyway, everyone else got a normal book in English, but as the only Asian kid, this is what they gave me:
