Are there any Sikh readers/writers/editors on the Forums?

So this question has been on my mind for some time and I haven’t come across another Sikh on episode  I know we are all awesome, no matter what and I can form connections with other people outside of my religion but I am curious about meeting people who share the same religion I do on Episode. It would be cool. If you’re Sikh, comment below!

OR if you speak Punjabi (fluent to somewhat fluent to a little to learning it), comment below as well!

Oh wow, that’s cool :sunglasses: Yeah, I haven’t come across any Sikhs in the Episode community either

So I’m wondering, if you speak Punjabi and Hindi, are they really similar?

In speaking, yeah, a lot similar. Not all that much though. But writing Punjabi is a whole different story.

Wow, that’s interesting! I’ve heard Hindi before and I could pick out some words because they were exactly the same in Punjabi. But then there were some words I didn’t know.

So you can write in both languages?

Nope. I can write in Punjabi, yes but it takes ages to do that. And I still can’t translate all of it. But I can write in hindi, yes.

I’m really impressed I have to say :heart_eyes_cat:

Yeah, Punjabi looks really complicated to write in, just looking at the newspapers my family reads the words are so different from English and confusing.

I tried practicing writing it and got everything down (the whole alphabet) at some point but then forget everything lol

Same! I went to a summer camp in a Gurudwara in my town where they taught us pUnjabi (speaking and writing both) in 10 days but it’s been 6 years. I barely remember anything. :joy:

OMG, it’s like you read my mind! :scream:

I went to a Gurdwara as well to learn. I went in knowing nothing…and came out knowing nothing :joy:

:joy::joy: Totally relatable! I thought I had learned Punjabi by the end if the camp but when I got home and my mom asked me to read a simple Punjabi sentence, I was like nuh-uh. Are there two versions of Punjabi because this sure ain’t what I learned.

Same. I learned Punjabi at a Gurdwara for a while. Then I forget everything. Second time I self-taught myself. I ended up forgetting everything again but strangely, I remembered more of what I taught myself for a longer time period than what the teacher at the Gurdwara taught me :woman_shrugging:

Yeah. I want to learn Punjabi again but I want to learn French before that. :joy: If some day, I do learn French, then I will think about learning Punjabi again.

On the bright side even though I can’t write and read in it, being able to speak it is good enough so I can communicate with my mom since she doesn’t know English. And I’m learning French as well :sunglasses:

You are? That’s great! My dad only knows Hindi and English so yeah, as no one is there to teach me Punjabi now, I am just like eh. It was one of the many things I learned and then forgot. :joy:

That’s OK, actually, my Punjabi isn’t perfect either. I can usually understand what my mom is saying, but overall, there’s a lot I can’t understand. Movies are sometimes confusing and so are songs

I mean I’m not even fully fluent in Punjabi, even my cousins made fun of my lack of Knowledge when it comes to the language because they know way more Punjabi than me and on top of that, they know Hindi. I should seriously brush up on my skills

Nah girl, you are fine. I understand Punjabi too but they speak too fast and fluently in movies to understand but Punjabi songs are the best.

Agree with this, atm, I’m addicted to them lol, and I’m trying to find this one song I used to hear at parties (shudders) but I’m struggling; on the bright side I’ve come across so many childhood songs :joy:
