I’ve been waiting for over a week for background approvals and it’s very frustrating because I can’t release any new episodes. Does anyone know if admin is backed up or what’s going on?

There is a contest going on currently, so there a tons of backgrounds being sent in and Episode is trying their best to try to approve all of them but some get missed occasionally.
If you feel it is taking too long, or you can’t wait, you can send in a ticket. But, there are many backgrounds and overlays they must approve so they may have just not gotten to yours yet.

I’d say if it takes around over 11 days, then send in a ticket. Unless you feel you should do otherwise.
