Is there a background for a classroom where characters can sit behind a desk while as looks like an overlay (I don’t really know if this makes sense but please help me…)

And so on with the rest of your characters if you want a background to just already have characters go to episodelife.com
It is an overlay. For that particular background, if you want to use all the seats, you’ll have to create multiple overlays.

Well it depends on the look you’re trying to go for. If you don’t mind that the background characters are static then it should be fine. But if you want to get a bit more complex by having moving characters, multiple overlays is the way to go.
