I get what you mean, I think you need to change the events that occur and peoples personas 100% but a poor girl moving in with rich is kind of a universal idea as long as you only stick with that and go from there, I don’t think anyone owns that Idea however if you got that idea from the story then you need to give some credit.

I think u could. U have stated that it is similar and not the exact same. However I agree that authors may not want their story copied as they spent their time coding. But one way or another stories will be similar, like the mafia example or loads of those cliche stories.

True, I see what you mean. For this story it’s based on a poor girl living moving in with the richest family in America. But the events will be different! So I’m not copying the story if I put it that way. I’m just taking their idea of the plot and turning it into my own original story if that makes sense.

Well you really aren’t copying tbh. That’s like me writing a story about someone who sadly lost her parents and was put in to foster care. It’s an event likely to occur. Also the story of how she ended up with a rich family will be different aswell, right?? If it is ur deffo not copying anything.

Yeah true. I was just making sure that it would seem alright to write a story with the same plot. Yes the way that she ended up with the family is different. In the original story the main characters mother worked for the rich family as a maid and then the family offered her and her mother to move in with them because they were struggling with money for the bills. In my story the main character gets a full scholarship to go to the top high school in America so she stays with the rich family offered to be her host parent.

I agree with @Hdz.Epi you’re not copying you just have a similar idea to that person but just don’t make it exactly like that storyline.

I think you need to use a different word instead of plot, because plot means series of events which makes it the same story, which may be confusing some people. Maybe use the word “idea” or “theme” instead?
