Can I use a pinterest photo as my cover, I don’t really know how this works or if this is ok, so I’m asking if people do this ?

No, you shouldn’t use Pinterest.
Covers need to be copyright-free, websites such as Unsplash and Pexels are ok as they are copy-right-free, but most of the things on Pinterest and Google and those types of things are copyrighted. There might be a few that aren’t but it’s not worth it.
So for a cover, I would either go to Pexels and Unsplash there are a few more that are all copyright free or have someone make you an edited/drawn cover there are lots of great shops on here, just look up Art Shop.
