Character Customization vs Pre-Designed Charaters

I’ve started yet another topic. I love this community❤.

I absolutely adore CC stories. The freedom it allows me when naming and designing my character is so euphoric my heart could burst. I love CC, but I know many authors don’t include CC. From other readers’ or even writers’ perspectives, which do you prefer?

Definitely CC, i absolutely love having the opportunity to chose how my character looks like and the LI, the story just isn’t the same if i can’t customize them.

Whenever I write stories I always allow full CC and name change because as a reader, I basically only read stories that have that since it feels like I’m in the story and all the characters and storylines feel personal haha

I prefer to have the possibility to choose because what if they are super ugly then I want to be able to change them

Totally agree with u… it’s another connection to the characters itself

No CC I wanam experince th authors vision.

Maybe its because i am blonde with blue eyes, so i have presentation on eveything, but i dont need to see myself in 2d character.

For me, it depends on the quality of the story and how well the author focuses on fleshing out characters and developing them. If the story is more on the basic side, I don’t mind CC, but if it’s more in-depth, well-written and has the inclination of decent character development, I prefer to read the characters as the author designed them and come to love how they look, who they are and appreciate their individual idiosyncrasies. For the latter, I often find myself liking features that I wouldn’t normally use on CC characters just because I’ve grown to like the character(s) as they are.

From an author perspective, I’m pretty much the same. I can’t dedicate myself to a CC character, at least not fully because that character is an insert, not a piece of my imagination with a specific appearance that I can aid with overlays and detailed descriptions. I can’t love, develop or enjoy directing a CC character as much as characters that I do not allow readers to customize. 🥲

Just my opinion though, no offense to anyone who feels differently about CC/no CC.

It really depend for me! If I like the MC and LI as they are then I keep it the same! I don’t go around changing the looks unless I’m doing story shoutouts or reviews!

And when it comes to writing, I mostly go with limited cc because I tend to use a lot of limb overlays, describe the features of the characters! If I’m feeling generous or I know that I won’t be using too many limb overlays, then I add full cc. The current romance story I’m working on has no cc because I will using a lot of overlays and not only limb overlays. Also the features of the character will be described a lot so a full cc or limited cc is a big no no!!

Thank you for sharing your guy’s opinions! I always passed by stories witch CC and wondered about authors’ takes on it, so I’m happy to gain insight. There is nothing wrong with liking or disliking it and I’m glad you guys are so open and respectful with your opinions:hugs::heart:

It’s depends! I am someone who is likely to make a story about another character, meaning the MC would probably an entire person and not the reader. With that, I really want readers to be in the same page as me and see them for who they are. However I understand how a lot of people love CC so I would add them

I always customise at least to a small extent.
I don’t mind not being able to change the name, but everyone has such different ideas on what looks good that I often don’t like the default look of the MC / LI.
I’d be quite happy if certain things like skin or eye colour couldn’t be changed, but you could refine the details.
I don’t even want my characters to look like me, they’re all quite different.
Especially with the LI, if I don’t think they look good, then I can’t really feel invested in the story!
