Character with epilepsy

I’m currently working on a story (well was my portal isn’t working atm :weary:) but I’ve recently had another idea for a story about my own experience with added romance (romance didn’t happen in real life sadly :joy:) some of my story will be mentioning epilepsy as I have epilepsy, would it be offensive to anyone using epilepsy in my story. The type I have is focal seizures which may come across as “weird or mental” as it includes hearing strange noises and experiencing unexplained sensation and emotions.” These are real symptoms of the epilepsy I have and for years people thought I was making up symptoms or just being weird.

While I obviously wouldn’t find this offensive due to it being real events would anyone else feel uncomfortable with me sharing these events?

I don’t have epilepsy, but I think that you should definitely share.

Honestly for ages people thought I was just being weird especially as I was hearing noises that didn’t exist. The idea popped into my head the other day as I had one of my seizures 2 days ago after going 9 months without any.

I just didn’t want people to think I was taking the mick out of it. A lot of people think epilepsy is falling to the ground and fitting bit in reality there is a lot more types of epilepsy each with their own symptoms.

I think it would actually be really informative and awesome if you wrote about that!

Writing about this would actually be incredibly educative to other readers! Writing stories based off of your own real-life events should not be offensive (of course, depending on what you’re writing) as it’s based on YOU. Just don’t forget to put a trigger warning at the beginning and you should be good to go! Another useful thing to include is a choice to skip seizures if readers are too uncomfortable. Happy writing! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
