I’m a sucker for a good bad boy.
I also like when the MC has ultimate power.
I’m not a fan of toxic stories or ones with excessive violence (especially domestic).
Mafia stories are just getting overdone at this point. They were overdone in 2017.
I have a love hate relationship with love triangles if only because 90% of the time I’m going to go with the bad boy or the one the mc met first. Plus, the “good boys” “nice guys” whatever oftentimes don’t feel as developed to me??
The mean girl for no reason is just stupid. Like people can be rude and bitchy but someone going after a person for something as simple as breathing in the same room as the star quarterback is just unrealistic.
My guilty pleasure is billionaire romances. Bonus points if he’s the boss
Cliches I don’t like or read are pregnancy stories (and I hate when it gets thrown halfway in as a plot point) and falling-in-love-with-the-kidnapper stories.
It depends on the type for me. If it’s a character that’s just being toxic and rude for no reason I’m usually not down. However, I can totally get behind someone who’s just rebellious and wants to be free from societal constraints.
I don’t know if this is just me but I absolutely HATE the cliche where the MC is treated like a princess. Like how the LI just sorta HAPPENS to be there for her every time and she just falls conveniently into their arms whenever she’s mistreated or is mad over stupid things and needs her love to protect her or whatever.
I don’t really HATE cliches I’m just tired of reading them mainly the:
Bad boy trope
Mafia stories and kidnapper stories
Stories with the gay bff who wears only pink and says stuff llike “Yasssss Queen” ALL THE TIME and that’s all to their personality.
The cold love interest who is an asshole to the MC but he “doesn’t know why” and he’s really in love with her And most of all:
The nerd trying to become popular so her loud obnoxious bff (who is usually a token gay or black character) gives her a makeover to go to a party that the popular boy or girl is throwing, the mean girl gets mad because she thinks the nerd is trying to make a move on her MAN so she harasses her. She ends up with the popular guy and boom they make babies in the ending Cliches I LOVE!!!

Reality TV, especially when you get to choose from a ton of different love interests (similar to love island)
Idk why but I like playing as someone powerful, whether it’s wealth or social status

bad boys (the rebellious kind, not the abusive ones)
Adding vine/meme humor, sometimes
Dislikes: Teacher/Student relationships
teenage pregnancies
abusive relationships being romanticize
MC falling in love with her kidnapper
the token non-white/gay/Muslim character who barely appears in the story and only exist to make the story seem “diverse”
parents being abusive and addicts
parents being absent in their child’s life throughout the whole story except when comforting them when the MC broke up with the bad boy LI for the 10th time
“Hi, my name is ____ and here is my story…”
“Nerdy” girls getting makeovers by removing their glasses, taking down their ponytail, and having them wear crop tops and mini skirts
