Cliche's you hate!

Not really a cliche but I’m gonna add it because I’ve seen it quite a bit

This might be an unpopular opinion but I’m not a big fan of partial customisation. Although, I have read a few stories where it’s pretty good. It’s kind of pointless to me because if I can’t customise the skin colour, hair colour or eye colour or whatever then what’s the point in being able to customise the small things like the nose. It doesn’t really make a big difference to me. In my opinion, if most things about the character aren’t customisable, then just leave the character as uncustomisable. But in no way do I hate stories like this, I actually have read a few that are in my top 10 fav list, just depends on how it’s done I guess.

I think partial customization is needed if a certain thing is really needed in the story. (Such as hair color or eye color). Other than that, if it’s not important in the story, then what’s the point of having it?

I agree. Although I see stories where the author wants the characters to look a certain way but it has no impact on the storyline. For those types of stories in my opinion the character should just be left uncustomisable

I agree with you 100%

That being said, a story I always recommend on the app is “Austentatious” by @thebutterfly_episode and she has @ episode.sucre on IG doing her art scenes and they just bring life to the story in my opinion. The art scenes in this story are so high quality, and portray so much emotion. I also see that you said you cringe at how a lot of episode authors write sex scenes and honestly same. This is another reason why this story is top 1 for me on the app. The writer has actual talent, no shade at anyone. She knows exactly what she is doing and it really shows in this story!

The usual boring story lines I cannot stand are:

  • Pregnancy

  • Bad boy

  • Rebounds

  • Romantisation of serial killers, rapists and gang leaders

  • Sugar daddies

  • Multiple love interests

  • Stockholm Syndrome

  • Celebrities, millionaires

  • That one MC to claims that she’s not like the other girls

Agreed on all of these although I’m guilty of the bad boy and multiple love interests in my story :joy::grimacing:

You hit the nail on the head perfectly

Although sugar daddy stories are a guilty pleasure of mine :persevere:

Although everything you said that’s cliche are boring(such as pregnancies or sugar daddies) as hell…

BAD BOY stories are killing me. Everywhere I go on episode to look for some good stories, all I see is “bad boys”. smh.

“can the boy boy help you?” “Can the bad boy find out about your past so you could figure out your father’s killer?” “Will the bad boy resist your charming looks”

People love to rely too much on fiction when none of this happens in real life.

I’m sorry that I’m being really nitpicky, but the apostrophe in the title is triggering me. “Cliches” means more than one cliche. “Cliche’s” means something the cliche owns

Fiction just means a story that isn’t true. A lot of the time, fiction can be super realistic!

But you’re right that people rely too much on unrealistic fantasies instead of grounding their fiction in reality

PERFECT topic for a critic like me to answer.

About the bad boy: that he acts like a total douche to the protagonist and is so full of himself. Even doesn’t feel ashamed to speak it out loud. (“Of course you’re hot, nobody can resist me” blablablah… if he would be joking, ok, but no!)
He keeps moving with his muscles (macho thing in Episode I don’t like, except when it’s irony). Even starts namecalling.
One story I’m reading (and willing to stop because of this:) he called her trash. TRASH, people.
And what does this naive girl do? Of course first getting very upset, but one episode later forgives him. Even sleeps with him. So the douche keeps acting like a douche and even gets sex in charge.
Seriously?
Next he seems to act a little cooler, but eventually ends up being a jerk AGAIN. He even sleeps with other girls after getting a fight with the protagonist and thinks he’s the man.
He keeps attracting her and eventually pushes her away again for maybe 6 times in the whole story.
But eventually the WORST thing is, as I said, the GIRL cooping with all of this. She ALWAYS gives him a second chance! Why?
I wanted so bad the choice: “doesn’t forgive him/doesn’t give him a second chance/ends up alone”, but this will not happen and especially not when the boy is a bad one. He will simply always win.
In all of the months I’m playing Episode, I think these choices appeared one or two times. That was it.

I know it’s only a story, but why does the author seems to like these jerks so much?
It would be less irritating if the girl would stop liking him and therefore he SINCERELY would try to change and eventually succeed (but NOT just overnight, that wouldn’t be realistic either) or just not at all. But that seems impossible.

It’s a pity I’m thinking of not reading this story anymore, because the rest of it seems cool and the subject is not a cliche (for me).
But this guy screws it up TOTALLY and the girl is so blind and idiotic for wanting him. He knows it, and his ego adores it.
As a reader, I just can’t stand it anymore.

Sucks less, but can also be irritating: the best friend. I’ve started to read two (or maybe more) stories where the best friend is this sexually obsessed but at the same time very naive, not respecting the sexual privacy of the protagonist, hyperactive, supergirly, only wearing clothes very colorful girl.
She has an overall nice personality yes, but these things I don’t like.

That’s it for now. I will write more if I get more inspiration.

! I didn’t want to attack any author personally and therefore I didn’t give the name of the story I was talking about. This is only my criticism, my opinion and even feedback if you want, so please, don’t take it personally.

I’m sorry for my mistakes in English. I’m not bad at the language, but I’m not used to speak it a lot anymore due reasons, so…

“they whn talk liKe this.” It’s so annoying.

Dunno I guess I hate it that stories usually add the typical ‘mean girl’ You know the one who has no character development and is just mean bEcAuSe ShE iS rIcH. I really hate that… it’s always kinda there and it’s just annoying I want to have a really reason or something not the bEcAuSe ShE iS rIcH thing. And don’t do make it typical for that character to hate the MC because she stole you’re ‘boyfriend’… I’m kinda done with that…
