Um… yes? lmao who are you to tell Muslims what they should wear. I said it depends on their family. I said they’re allowed because they are - it isn’t illegal. If you tell Muslim women to cover up then keep the same energy for Muslim men. Unless you’re still living in the 6th century and you feel the need to tell Muslim women what they can and can’t wear. In the Quran it only says to dress modestly. It isn’t even compulsory to wear a hijab
Sorry
EDIT: I didn’t hurt you that bad, chill. I made 1 mistake. It isn’t the end of the world
Thank you for making this point, a lot of people fail to understand that Islam has a very diverse group of people. The way one dresses themselves can be influenced by culture and their comfort levels & how they interpret the faith
Exactly. I don’t like these types of threads because people tend to jump to “yeah Muslims can’t show any of their skin” and “no, you should cover her ankles”. Like no. It depends on your own faith and what you think is modest. If this keeps happening then the oppression of women in Muslim dominated countries will never end.
Agreed, the way one dresses and what they interpret as modest is a personal concern. If it affects somebody that much, then tough luck and as a Muslim myself I do not wear a hijab, nor do I cover my entire body (mainly modest clothes) but that is because of how I see faith (liberal).
here, just so you know, my Pakistani main character doesn’t completely wear a hijab but covers herself, and not wearing to revealing clothing because she has strict parents lol.
And then I have an African character who is a muslim but wears a head wrapped scarf and modest outfits.
Their are strict religious muslims, and non strict religious muslims but they are still MUSLIM so they have to follow certain requirements. No muslim is allowed to show that much skin, because the holy book said so, but its about wether people follow the holy book completely or not. If the characters background is about a strict muslim family then it should be expressed through the character being fully covered . If the character is just muslim the outfit should be covered but not strictly !. just like what MTB stated
The OP did not specify what type of family the character had. As I stated:
I have also said:
So that the author does not end up misrepresenting the use of a hijab.
just clarifying that they are not
Yes, it states to cover the bosoms and to be modest. Also, garments to be lengthened. With the Quran, again it is the case of how you interpret the scripture. The extent of how covered one is once again a decision taken by an individual, a hijabi may opt to wear clothing covering their arms and legs.
However, the extent of modesty will not be same from culture to culture. The style of clothing people adopt is heavily influenced by culture as well - some opt for saris, jeans and shirts, kaftans, and the list goes on. Scripture is there to be interpreted, and Muslims are diverse in their ways of interpreting the faith. There are some places of scripture open to interpretation and clothing can be one of them
How are arms, shoulders and legs (up to knees) “that much skin”? I don’t see the problem with a Muslim showing her arms or wearing shorts (not like booty shorts but you get me) on a hot day.
As you said, it depends on the person’s faith. What me and @Days are trying to say is that if we normalize this thing of restricting Muslim women on what they should wear, then the oppression against women in many Muslim countries will never end.
I’m a liberal too, so that’s my opinion. If you guys think differently, that’s ok. However I’d like to think that Muslim women have the choice to wear whatever they want. It isn’t up to other Muslims to call her “haram” and police her on what she has done wrong. That is between her and her God.
But they can. That’s what I mean. Not that the religion condones it, but it isn’t anyone’s right to judge what these girls are wearing. Judging is probably a bigger sin than not covering up.
so I get what your trying to say, that not all muslims have to necessarily wear a hijab or cover their bodies which is true and is a fact everyone can agree on
Which is exactly what we are trying to say. So instead of commenting on these types of threads that the girl is showing “too much of her ankles” or that her “arms need to be covered” just normalize the reality that not all Muslims nowadays even cover those minor things.
p.s. the ankles and arms thing is not aimed at anyone in particular, just stating what i’ve seen on these threads.
I know for a fact that wearing a hijab is not compulsory. It only says to cover your bosoms and to dress modestly. No where does it say that we must cover our hair. It’s a person’s choice but the idea of Muslims having to cover every inch of their body including hair was created by strict Muslim countries and Arab culture. In the Prophet’s time, the paintings of the women were extremely different than what Muslim women are perceived as today.
You seem intent on trying to say that showing an arm is haram and not modest. I’m not twisting anything. I just get the idea from this thread that you seem to think that modest means not showing any skin.
And I clearly said that the statement I made wasn’t aimed at anyone. So before getting mad and trying to accuse me of twisting words, try and read my whole comment next time.
dive more deeper into the Quran man , hijabs weren’t just made up out of thin air
