This is a horrible idea on all sides, honestly. I understand that the purpose of the app is to maintain profit, but the repercussions of this update will almost certainly overshadow any potential fiscal gain. It will be horrible for the readers, because that’s honestly way too much to ask for a single chapter, and it will be awful for the authors because their reads are definitely going to decrease.
Especially considering larger stories, say 50 chapters: say you have to spend gems to unlock the latter 49, that’s 492 gems. The smallest gem package that would have that many has 672, and costs $50. For an episode story? $50??
If this becomes mainstream, I doubt I’ll continue reading on the app, and I certainly won’t write on it anymore. It’s one thing to ask for passes for stories that they literally get FOR FREE from community authors, but to take advantage of their base in this way is really disappointing. I really hope they see how completely nonsensical this is.

How does that even work tho, I thought episode didn’t own your story that’s why they pay people to make it into episode officials. Can they really ask for money from the readers with someone elses story

They can, because when we publish we’re agreeing to allow it. We can always pull our stories from the platform though, unless they’ve been purchased as a featured story.

I don’t know what possessed Episode to start doing this, but this isn’t a good idea. I don’t agree with this at all because it’s unfair. If they decide to this, it’s going to force people to buy gems. Let’s be real here, majority of Episode’s audience are under 18. Young teens between the ages of 13-15 don’t have a source of income. So where can they get the money from to buy gems? Their parents or guardians. Also, this is kind of a bad time to start doing this because many people have lost their jobs due to COVID! So those group of people don’t have any money.

It has happed to me and it’s 8 gems to read each chapter I will no longer be using the app to finish the story I started it would cost me 50 pounds it just to much money

See it’s stupid. They have an app for 13+ year old 13 year olds don’t have there own money to spend on gems in the first place. Yet they continue to have expensive gem choices in terrible stories and for you to skip adverts and now they want to do this.
If they do stuff like this they in turn need to have more ways to earn free gems and more of them.

This is one of the dumbest move I ever seen … If they want to implement this feature, they should do it with featured stories and not community ones… but for this, they have to listen to us and seriously upgrade the quality and the diversity of plot/settlings/genre of their “Episode’s original’s” which no longer have anything original expect the name since nearly 3 years now

I am already sad with that addvertisment thing (when we have to see a addvertisment to read a chapter)
and if they will start takign gems to let us read a chapter then it will get worst
