Summarizing first week.
Please note that we are only artist wannabees and have no legit accomplishments, so take into it into account while reading ^^
@Epiexpert
It’s not bad overall.
She should pay more attention to proportions I think. Legs are kinda thick, I don’t see where knees begin, although I should. Also, the fingers on the right hands are kinda small. I know that’s how episode animation portrays them, but here they look small compared to other parts. Dunno what software she is using, but stabilizer would be handy. The outline is relatively steady, but still. I would try to play with line thickness, maybe making it thicker on hair and clothes part. And yep, curves would do, since the reference was a grown woman.
Okay so while the general shape and proportions aren’t bad,
I think the lines need to be smoother as they are a bit shaky and in some places.
She needs to add more shape to the body, it lacks curves going straight down and the legs have no shape.
The hand on the right is a little off.
The neck looks a little too long to me
And the clothes don’t really hang right… well, shorts.
@Maria.StoryWritter
Okay. The stance itself is great and heroic. Hands and hair is really great, the skirt part seems to be just a tiny bit shaky. The things to work on here are bangs and facial features.
Bangs are a bit off, they seem to be different from the rest of the hair, at least the ends. I would def make eyes a bit bigger and add lashes. I wouldn’t put blurred-soft wrinkle detail near her nose, since I think, first of all, these cartoonish kinds of drawings don’t really need to have that many facial details, especially if the character is young, and secondly, it has more to do with the shading, so I think it’s not necessary. If we are talking about that reference photo of Zoey, I would make lips a bit thinner. And it seems like mouth should be positioned a bit more to the right.
The lines in general are pretty sturdy but the cape and skirt have a few minor shakes, same with a few parts of the hair and fringe.
The eyes themselves need more of an edge, a flick to count for the natural flare at the sides given by eyelashes and end of the eye socket, as they seem too small and round as they are.
It meets the specs of a heroic stance it’s strong and powerful.
The mouth looks a little high to me, only slightly but it makes the distance from mouth to chin look too far, I would suggest to leave the facial crease line out as once coloured that would look strange as it would be more of a shaded edition rather than a necessary line.
There’s something strange about the hand on the right, where the thumb is over the fingers, I think it’s the nail, I would suggest to check the placement of that as it doesn’t quite sit right as it is.
@Jayl
Well, the outline itself is great. Steady and all that jazz.
I was a bit puzzled since you said you can’t draw bangs in this style. It is tracing, and nothing wrong with that, but you should start trying to do some details on your own, or you might get stuck with ordinary outlines, that won’t have ur personality in them.
I wouldn’t call pose as heroic as well, unfortunately. Your hand is steady, so you really should try doing new things, like slowly adding ur own details.
Lines are neat and tidy, the stance however is more rebel than hero.
The hairstyle obviously could have been altered easily into having a fringe, even if it didn’t look the best, you are practicing here to make yourself better, take the opportunity, make mistakes, in the end you learn from those and improve on it.
There’s nothing wrong with tracing as long as you make it your own. Don’t just trace an outline and leave it as it is, slowly add things, change things, that way you begin to have a wider range and build up the ability to create other things. It’s easy enough to trace an episode character, but when you want to improve, take those risks and make it shine.
@Infinitee
This outline is actually my personal favorite.
It’s not in episode style, but we never said you should do it in Episode style. I think the most important is to create your own thing that will distinguish ur art.
Stance is super heroic. Overall impression… It’s hard to explain, but I see a lot of potential in this outline after coloring. I think a very unique piece can be done with this one, and I would love to try myself.
Curves aren’t curvy, but it doesn’t make it bad, as I see it a part of its charm I suppose.
The only 2 things. I would advise working on the line steadiness, maybe add stabilizer stuff. Second, you left some lines that aren’t supposed to be there, like cape line left on the arm.
I’m not sure what software u use tbh. Not sure it’s something common artists use here. Some lines look like they were made in paint. If you could clarify this, I would appreciate. Just curiosity.
I love that this one is different, bold and really stands out.
A few things I did notice were that the body does lack curves, the hips and thighs for instance, the hips to be wider slightly and the thighs slightly thicker than the rest of the legs.
The fingers need to be more shaped really, not sure if she’s wearing gloves or not, if she is just leave the fingers slightly arched at the end softly rather than just rounded. If she’s not wearing gloves then I would definitely add fingernails.
There’s a few lines that are slightly shaky and a couple that need to be made neater as they overlap a little in places.
I also noticed that the lips were a bit round. They need a little more natural shaping to them.
@Infinitee and @Epiexpert you sent outline with the white background, and we can’t work with that. Pay attention next time.
I and @Cheyara_Skadi both agreed on picking @Infinitee as this week favorite outline. In our opinion it follows requirements the most, and additionally has it’s own unique style.
We hope that @Infinitee will send proper outline file until tomorrow noon.
Otherwise we will go with @Maria.StoryWritter outline, since it is the second closest to requirements.
