Cultural Appropriation - Playing Devil's Advocate

As a white curly haired girl myself, I do not agree with this.

This woman right here is Italian (white) and as you can see her texture is 3c/4a. In the photo she’s at the same hair salon I go to to have my hair cut, and trust me there’s a bunch of curly haired white women like her and me with textures similar to those OP shared.

So, with all due respect, this comment of yours makes no sense.

I do agree on this part, because if you take the whole of the white population on earth, curly hair takes up a small percentage compared to straight and wavy hair. But to imply that

these textures

are unrealistic for white people in general to have is naive. Sure, they’re rather rare, but please don’t go around saying that they’re exclusive to POC :woman_shrugging:t3::woman_facepalming:t3:

Most white people don’t and never said that they couldn’t so please re read before trying to say I said something because I clearly stated that MOST WHITE PEOPLE DO NOT GROW NATURAL CURLY HAIR. And yes it may be rare but most black people have natural curly hair unless we get perms or relaxers. :tipping_hand_woman:t4:

I never said that White people couldn’t have curly hair I said that most don’t and how you call me ignorant when your getting mad of other peoples opinion huh? All I did was state that some of those hairstyles you showed weren’t meant for a white person.

But they clearly are since there are white people with curly hair like that. I just told you than in the south of Italy there are tons of people with curly hair so why do you keep arguing?

Well your phrasing was awful then. Natural hair is synonymous with hair textures/hairstyles that belong to black people, and by saying natural you’re automatically implying that white people are excluded because it’s not appropriate for them to have such textures, which just isn’t true.

Your full sentence was

The problem is that those hairstyles can be considered natural hairstyles but not necessarily. In fact, depending on how I cut my hair, it can imitate most of those styles. I doubt you’d define my hair natural though :woman_shrugging:t3:

We already established posts ago that the majority of white people do not have curly hair, but that doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily inappropriate for one to have tighter textures. In fact, in some areas of the globe, while still not being the predominant texture, it’s not uncommon either.

Nobody is arguing with you so stop trying pull that :woman_facepalming:t4: I’m simply responding to your message like you responded to mine. If I personally feel like some of the hairstyles you shown we’re not for white people I’m going to feel like that.

Girl WHAT :joy:
So you’re saying. I can’t reduce the length of my hair, or let it grow out, because it’s a style that isn’t meant for me as a white person? Wow, I had no idea I wasn’t supposed to. Next time, I’ll be sure to perm my hair straight and keep it at a reasonable length for my race.

They actually do  It is very common for white people to have curly hair, my brother is 75% white (which is very vague, I know, I feel someone with white skin is always simplified to a “white” person but really no person is fully anything) But he has extremely curly hair, as well as my cousin who would be perceived as white, her hair literally cannot be straight cause when she brushes it, is just gets really big LOL. But to say curly hair is uncommon in “white” people is not the most accurate statement. But I do feel it is relevant to acknowledge that different races have different textures and ways of being curly- this is not to say a black person could not be born with white textured hair and vise versa, but it isn’t aligned with commonality.
Basically, yes, it is common for “white” people to have curly hair LOL

agree 100%- lets not minimize other races just to lift up another. If your hair looks like that, you should be able to make a character look like that!

So what you are saying is that someone born with light skin is automatically has pin straight hair well let’s look at a genetics study done on curly hair has to say

You can feel however you want, but your feelings go against the reality of things. White people can and do have curly hair. It’s a fact, no matter what your feelings on the matter are.

When did I say white people couldn’t have curly hair?

No, I’m not making myself look bad at all. You simply didn’t understand what I said.

Just to be clear, I simply said that right now big lips are a trend. It’s not an opinion about it, it’s a matter of fact. There are people who makes their lips bigger because right now the trend is big lips, just like thick eyebrows. A few years ago it was trendy to have thin eyebrows, basically painted, now it’s the opposite. Do I agree with it? Not particurarly but the matter remains that big lips are a trend right now so nobody should be surprised that there are so many stories with characters with big lips. It’s a matter of preferences and sometimes those preferences are swayed by the trend of the moment. It’s normal and it shouldn’t be taken as an insult because it’s not in anyway meant as an insult. I wish people would stop misinterpreting my words. That’s what is insulting here.

I’d like to add to your curly hair collection with a couple of pictures of Nicole Kidman.

I know the bottom picture her hair a little tighter and courser to the top one

I don’t think its POC’s need these European features to be beautiful, so much as it is this being unique, and finding beauty in that.

I understand what you’re saying but when people mostly use European features for Black people it’s like saying European features on a black person are the only good features on a black person :grimacing:.
