Hi dara i am trying to do a background fading like you would with characters if you could PM me, so we can work this kink out that would be awesome!!! @Dara.Amarie
what’s the issue?
If I understand it correctly you need a simple black BG and your actual BG you want as an overlay.
Then you can change the opacity of your overlay to 0 in a certain time and it looks like it fades out
Use
@transition fade out in color in time
So that’s not the issue, I have the background I need plus 7 overlays that need to be fading in and out.

Have you added the overlays to the scene?
Then you just change their capacities.
@/overlay NAME opacity 0 in (time)
Or anywhere between 0 (invisible) to 1 (fully visible) in whatever length of time you want it.
If you want to fade multiple overlays at the same time, use & instead of @ for all but the last one.
Dara’s guide is a great help. But you just have to play with it so they fade in and out as you want them to.
Yes so this is what I have at the moment and it starts to fade but then doesn’t.
EXT. BALCONY SUNSET with BLUE DANCE FLOOR spot 0.801 -8 -38 with GREEN DANCE FLOOR spot 0.801 -8 -38 with ORANGE DANCE FLOOR spot 0.801 -8 -38 with PINK DANCE FLOOR spot 0.801 -8 -38 with PURPLE DANCE FLOOR spot 0.801 -8 -38 with RED DANCE FLOOR spot 0.801 -8 -38 with YELLOW DANCE FLOOR spot 0.801 -8 -38 with DJ BOOTH spot 1.000 -557 -147
@overlay DJ BOOTH moves to layer 20 AND overlay BLUE DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 10 AND overlay GREEN DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 1 AND overlay ORANGE DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 1 AND overlay PINK DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 1 AND overlay PURPLE DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 1 AND overlay RED DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 1 AND overlay YELLOW DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 1
@DJ spot 0.623 153 302 AND DJ moves to layer 19
@overlay BLUE DANCE FLOOR to layer 10
@overlay BLUE DANCE FLOOR opacity 0 in 2
@overlay GREEN DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 9
@overlay GREEN DANCE FLOOR opacity 1 in 0
@overlay ORANGE DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 8
@overlay GREEN DANCE FLOOR opacity 0 in 2
@overlay ORANGE DANCE FLOOR opacity 1 in 0
@overlay ORANGE DANCE FLOOR opacity 1 in 0
@overlay PINK DANCE FLOOR moves to layer 8
@overlay ORANGE DANCE FLOOR opacity 0 in 2
@overlay PINK DANCE FLOOR opacity 1 in 0
When you add an overlay to the background line, the opacity is automatically 1.
So you can delete the “…opacity 1 in 0”
Instead of moving all your dance floors to layer 1, move them to 10, 9, 8, etc. In the order you want them to appear. 10 first. Then when you fade the one at layer 10, the one at layer 9 will already be underneath.
I can help more tomorrow if you need it. It would be easier to type out when I have my laptop.
Actually that is really helpful thank you so much, I will try that and let you know!!
Oh My God thank you so much that worked perfectly!!!
Awesome. Bet it looks amazing.
