Common Errors

"No eyebrows exist"
If you are getting an error message saying that “no eyebrows” exist (or any other feature doesn’t exist), these are the 3 reasons why you would be getting that error:

1. The system does not recognize the character name. You either didn’t change the template’s name to your own character’s name, you misspelled your character’s name, or you have not created that character yet.
2. You are using a male character in a female template (and vise versa)
3. You are using an INK template in a Limelight story (and vise versa)

"No labels exist"
If you are getting warning messages saying that NO LABELS EXIST, then that means you put the template inside of a choice or if/elif/else code. Templates have labels and labels cannot be inside of brackets. You will need to place the template outside of the choice, then put a goto inside the choice that leads to the first label of the template. HERE is an example of how to do that.

You must copy and paste the template into your script first!
Then you need to change the template’s character name to your character’s name.
Follow these instructions in order :

1. Highlight “FEMALEAVATAR” or “MALEAVATAR” in your script
2. Press Ctrl + F on your keyboard (Cmd + F for Macs)
3. A small grey box will pop up, click on ALL first!
4. Type in your character’s name in all caps

What different between Is and starts?

Using "is"
The word “is” is basically used in the same way as @ but not exactly. “is” is 1 beat in the script (basically 1 second)

@BOY is laugh_giggle
@GIRL is faint

In the above sequence, BOY will laugh first then GIRL will do the faint animation.

Using "starts"
“starts” is also used basically in the same way & is used, except that it’s only used for animations. “starts” has no beats. So using “starts” will make the character do the animation at the same time the next command happens.

@BOY starts laugh_giggle
@GIRL is faint

In the above sequence, GIRL and BOY will both do their animations at the same time.

Using "does it while"
“does it while” is only used for when you want to make a character walk while doing a different animation other than the default walking animation. It should not be used on its own.
Here are some examples of how to use “does it while”:

@BOY walks to screen center and BOY does it while run_athletic
@GIRL walks to spot 1.28 220 55 in 3 and GIRL faces left and GIRL does it while walk_rear
@PERSON exits left and PERSON faces right and PERSON does it while dance_shake_loop

Okay, so a few years ago I tried using “is” for an animation while walking and it made my character go idle for a split second, so I learned to use “does it while” instead. But I just tried using “is” again just to see the quick idle issue and I don’t see it anymore? Could this be something Episode fixed? And if that’s so, then why should anyone bother writing “does it while”? What will happen if I get lazy and use “is” instead from now on?

Hi everybody. I really really REALLY need to know how do you rush the characters to a certain spot keeping the animation? My story is complete but chapter 5 is a little messy cause I don’t know how to rush and code them properly. So my male char takes hold of his fiancee and rushes her to the stove while they’re kissing but how do I keep it that way without the animation breaking, without him doing a quick awkward turn around just to turn back towards her, kissing her. I appreciate any help.
