To be honest, if I lived in America, I’d have seen way worse than what I did here. A lot of your PG-13 movies are rated M15 here. So, I wasn’t legally watching stuff you were allowed to.
I’m a parent myself, but my little one is a bit too young to understand much, so she watches most things we do, as long as there’s not excessive swearing (so she won’t repeat it) or sex (so, she won’t ask us questions we don’t want to give her the answer to yet.) would I want her reading this when she gets older. Probably not. But I think there’s a better so,union than removing it.
Finally, they responded to somebody.
This might sound silly, but I think that avoiding mature content is best. It isn’t hard for minors to access the material, no matter how many warnings are put before it or which category it’s in.
And some may think that the scenes aren’t enough to scar minors or anything, but the truth is that they are curious enough to look for more of that kind of content online (in less appropriate places) if they enjoy the content. And that can really mess with their heads.
I know right!
I just saw they had responded to Alex so I had to screenshot it and post it here
I’m not American, I’m English
As I said before, if I caught my son (who’s 2 so it wouldn’t happen) with that on his screen, he wouldn’t have a phone. It’s undermined how impressionable teenagers are, it’s actually where we develop and grow the most with our mindsets and values. They need to lead by example, not have to be told.
Again, I totally disagree. I don’t think it’s that bad. I don’t work for the censors board, but I fail to see it being worse than a PG-13 movie.
But I respect your opinion.
I won’t comment further as I seemed to be offending people.
I’m sorry it’s just my point of view.
Don’t apologise! It’s your opinion and you should be able to voice your points as much as anyone else. I think it’s that you are part of the minority in this situation so people are aiming their grievances at you as appose to Episode (who it should be towards).
Okay. I want to discuss this, because there needs to be a discussion about this story.
Let’s start by talking about the fact that this app is rated PG-13. And since this is an Episode official story, it definitely should not include such messages and content in it! This is their app, and it means that they have to set an example with their stories. This story? I wouldn’t read it myself (yes, I read chapter one to see how bad it really is), let alone suggest it to 13 year old girls who know nothing about life!
Also, can we talk about what hypocrites Episode proved themselves to be? I personally have a story on the app and it’s 100% appropriate for the younger audience of Episode, but many people had their art or stories removed because of violation of guidelines. Episode don’t even follow the guidelines they’ve set themselves! Imagine working so hard on a story or art and have it removed, then seeing THIS get published!
People have complained about “It Starts With A Bra”. This story is much worse!
Episode have gone too far. It’s time we open their eyes.
#episodehypocrisy on Insta
But they just took it off the featured page.
100%
I know, hopefully it gets completely removed, not just the featured page
Me too. And episode just responded saying they are halting the release but does that mean it is still gonna continue? And there are so many other problems within the community that we have been complaining about forever, like how it takes a long time for Episode to review backgrounds and overlays.
I think Episode underestimates how much younger audiences would like more complex stories and think all they would like is repetitive cliche stories.
Only time will tell unfortunately, I don’t have much hope that it will be removed completely.
They need to fix all the issues they already have instead of creating more.
Definitely. They seem to think we all want some bad boy cliche crap thrown together. Some of us like to read actual thought out stories
Again, this is where they rely on user stories too much, same with diversity.
That’s what I’m saying they keeping creating more stories and skin tones and other things. Which is good but at the same time they don’t listen to our small but repetitive issues with the app, mobile creator, and writer portal. It is annoying.
It’s super annoying. I would much rather wait for new art updates but have a writers portal that doesn’t have 1000 pointless errors, than get new content every week but have to complain about all the things they are doing nothing about or at least not telling us they are fixing them.
For the record, I do agree with you partially. This story is obsessed with nudity, underwear and sex for shock value. I still don’t think it’s over 14, but nearly every scene is dedicated to it.
I don’t want it banned, but it does seem like an excuse to get attention, which unfortunately it has done. This thread was probably the reaction they were looking for.
I disagree and I think sex is ok on this app, but this story has an unusual horniness about it.
What DOES annoy me is the double standards. I was warned over this scene in my story:
For the record, they’re not having sex, merely cuddling up in bed (a lot of people prefer to sleep nude), yet they get away with murder.
Unlike most of you, my gripe isn’t that this story should be banned. I’m furious that it’s allowed when lesser things, like the scene above aren’t allowed.
First of all, I would like to say that I agree with most of what @AJ_PELZER is saying. To be honest, the PG13 rating has been a joke for some time now and I was reading worse things in books targeting my age demographic in middle school. For example, the Mortal Instruments series is officially rated 14+ and those books contain sexually mature content as well as topics like incest.
However, in this situation, Episode is in the wrong. The utter hypocrisy is the issue here because Episode’s guidelines state that sex shouldn’t be simulated in any instance. While reading excerpts from this story, I was reminded of other examples of this type of content from USER stories that weren’t taken down.
The truth is nearly everyone on this app violates the rules regarding mature content in some way, but only certain people get dinged for it. Don’t believe me? Go into the romance section right now and take a glance at some of the covers that pop up. Episode either needs to crack down on violations or change its guidelines all together. They are far too broad and Episode’s inconsistency in enforcing them has caused mass confusion in it’s users.
In my opinion, the problem lies within the type of story episode has created here. I don’t believe so many people would be as upset if this story had a well fleshed out plot with interesting characters and well written dialog. This story is kind of tacky in the way it approaches it’s subject matter and it reads more like trashy wattpad romance than anything else. There’s a place for those types of stories but it shouldn’t be Episode.
