I have read plenty of amazing stories with diversity and I’m totally here for it. Though, I’ve read my share of stories with the author depicting ethnic groups in completely wrong ways. There are many stereotypes on every ethnicity, some good, some bad. I mean sure, Asians are usually portrayed as Monolid and sickly yellow skin. If you fit under that description, I have nothing against you. But to all the Asians that are just a “Medium” skin color, yeah I get you.
As a fellow Asian, I’m tan with…no monolids? Don’t know how to word that.
I’ve seen some black characters showed with pale lips. Like if it’s lipstick then okay, but I’ve seen some that are just their look. In the story, it was also stated that that was how all blacks were like.
Idk, maybe I’m being weird but this is just what I think.

You mean blackface? Oof. Every time I see it, I get chills… Like. Its really sickening just to see it and be reminded of what that look is associated with.
As a lipstick, even, I don’t think it is fine and dandy to put pale lips on a black character. I am more lenient with darker skinned characters having lips that are like the exact same color as the skin. For the most part, but if nothing else, I’d hope people could make the characters not look like a caricature of a racist chapter in our story. T.T

I hate the “yellow toned” Asian and Black girl with pink/chapped lips

yeah, i mean, these authors take the time to code a whole story, why not take the extra time to create an accurate representation of any kind of POC?

I hate seeing a black character with blush lips and I usually see it on male characters in stories. It really irritates me and I end up not paying attention to the story but on the characters lips instead. It’s really not hard to find the right lip colour for the different skin tones

I’m Asian and my INK character is olive (because in real life I am olive), and my eyes are upturned feline because I do not have monolids in real life. I make Asian characters with medium skin tones and monolids and without it!
I think a lot of people tend to 1, conflate being Asian with East Asian only and have an “idea” of what Asian people look like, when we are incredibly vast bc hello Asia is a huge continent, and 2 don’t know how diverse Asian people can look.
Sorry if none of this makes sense btw I have a head cold. I get what you mean though.

Omg seriouslyyy everyone thinks that if you’re Asian you are either Japanese or Chinese (or something along those lines) but there’s more than just those people in Asia! There’s India, Philippines, Russia, Sadi Arabia and blah blah blah not trying to say “blah” in a rude way it’s just that there’s a lot more countries but I don’t want to list them all lmao

Honestly when are people going to learn that not all Asians have super bright skin and slanted/narrow eyes? Asia is quite a large continent, do you really think everyone is going to look the same?
And you know what I HATE to see, dark skin characters (sometimes people with medium brown skin) with unflattering lip colors. like we get it, there aren’t many choices for them in the portal, but guys sometimes its like 10 shades lighter? Cmon now

When people do not code the families correctly and your whole family has ashy *ss lips. A big disappointment.
