I actually like the idea of more spacing out the contests. Maybe give them a little more time to decide on a genre because of every body is the same cup of tea. Some people like certain genere’s, and if episode had more time, maybe they could find the most liked or read genre so they could include that. Totally enjoy entering them though.
That’s not really how the contests work. They don’t read all of the entries and I don’t think they ever will.
I mean not the same.
No no no, I didn’t mean them reading the entries, I mean them just checking out which genre even outside of contests is a nice genre of most read genre to the extent of how people rate them.
I feel like if they didn’t give contests a genre, people would end up producing the same old bull. One of the best things about contests is they force people to stop writing about gang members and billionaires and make something different.
I still do like where you’re coming from.
Two months for the next contests seem like a lot of time to decide.
I don’t think they choose the next contest between contests. I think they’ve planned loads of contests in advance.
They most likely do.
But that also comes with the responsibility of reading some of the entries, still like the thought.
I personally like specific prompts (can you tell I’m half-awake) & genre prompts combined (but this discussion could veer slightly off-topic).
I think they have different teams doing different things. I don’t think the same people choose the contests and read the entries.
That is probably most likely, still, I do follow on my thoughts.
If not all of the same people, still some of the same people with good ideas.
In fact, it would be very bad business practice if they didn’t plan ahead. Otherwise contests might end up being too similar too close to one another. The chances are that they have a yearly plan to space out different genres and prompts to make everyone feel included.
A lot of companies don’t plan ahead, I think it just depends on how good their work ethic is to make the time.
I don’t think so. I think most companies have a very good idea of that kind of thing well ahead. Including Episode. In fact, some of the contest names have been leaked months in advance, which is more proof that they do put thought into it.
In fact, most companies plan ahead of time. Pocketgems has over 100 people working for them. It’s not like it’s 6 people in a room reading stories and approving backgrounds and coming up with contests. Most multi-million dollar companies have meetings where they come up with yearly plans for this kind of thing.
I don’t think anyone really does until they hit that wall, but I think it’s how you learn, re-evaluate and grow.
I guess that I don’t understand why Episode should reduce the number of contests when entering is completely optional.
Guys, your discussion is starting to get a bit off-topic. If you want to discuss Episode company practices and plans, please take it to PMs
