Questions:
What do you think cultural appropriation means to you?
What do you think cultural appreciation means to you?
If someone is disrespecting cultural appreciation, how would talk/address it to the person/author?
Why do you think it is important to talk about, Cultural Appropriation & Cultural Appreciation?
i think cultural appropriation is when people dont recognise the meaning behind the thing like clothing/hairstyle and they say well it’s ‘just a ____’
From my perspective I think cultural appreciation is just genuinely respecting the value of the culture and not belittling the meaning.
I think i would try an educate them but then if they proceed to be ignorant and rude I would ignore them.
Because it happens so much people dont know the difference between them and they have a very important history an background.

Cultural appropriation is exactly what it means, disrespecting a cultural by making it into a insulting joke.
I’m from South Africa, white people often dress in traditional clothing as a sign of unity. We appreciate each other cultural and if you wear it wrong get corrected and learn.
just explain the issue with it in a kind letter. Being rude back is not the answer
Cultural Appropriation is making fun of another cultural as appreciating is respecting and enjoying it
The adaption of for example cultural clothing or customs without acknowledging its origin.
Basically what it means, appreciating another culture and respecting it. Taking inspiration by another culture and making clear where it comes from, basically giving credit.
As long as I have the knowledge I’d try to educate them regarding the matter sometimes they might just not know or have different views regarding some things. I feel like sometimes people try to speak up for others when in reality they wouldn’t have an issue with that.
I think people tend to forget that countries have always borrowed from each other that’s why jeans for example are worn basically everywhere. People should also be aware of the difference between culture and religion because it’s not the same. For example I don’t have any issue if people that aren’t from my culture wear our traditional clothing or designers using inspiration by it, in fact it would actually make me feel happy and a little proud even.
People wearing religious assets even if they don’t belong to that religion is another issue and probably depends from case to case (for example I’ve seen someone say it’s ok to wear the cross even if you’re not christian idk if it’s true tho). Halloween is a good example regarding a holiday which has spread to different countries today.
People talk about diversity and multiculturalism all the time yet at the same time they kind of keep each other away.
