Eh. Somewhat but not really. I just don’t find it offensive. Others do. I just gave a reason why they do, from their point of view. I agree of it it came into place but we are accepted it and called it in our own better way. Only reason why I would say they do t like it is because black is associated as an evil color. I don’t think for that reason but they do. We interrupted in a different way. It just matters by the context people say black. Like “look at that black bitch.” See what I mean?
I think too many rules just make people feel really confused and hostile towards the whole community. If we’re constantly telling people what they can and can’t say, it just creates more divides.
Plus, terms like “African American” can be really ignorant when used for all of the black people in the world. I mean, there are black people from all over the world and American POC can seem pretty insular for outside POC. Probably not the best image.
Race isn’t a thing, though. Race does not exist. Imagine someone telling you something about birds, like, “Hey, did you know that black pigeons, are different from white pigeons?” It’s dumb, right? They’re both pigeons, there’s no difference between either one. So, how is someone gonna tell me, darker skinned people are different from lighter/fairer people?
Let that sink in.
Therefore, race doesn’t exist. It was literally invented by European invaders/slave owners who wanted to devalue African captured slaves. Our ancestors. Caucasians refuse to admit that. If I were to approach one, and say, “Hey, race doesn’t exist.” What would happen?
I remember first hearing this idea. I still love this idea, but it can be difficult to speak about people without race when it is always something that comes up.
I think people need to heal before we can really utilize this idea. There’s a lot of hurt in America, at least. Not entirely sure about the rest of the world, but America needs healing. People are divided by everything these days.
If that is the case and everyone is the same then how is the term “diversity” even a thing or an issue? In order to have a diverse environment you need different types of people with different experiences and view points. In order to categorize these different points of views and experiences we started classifying different people with different races/labels. It’s no different then naming different types of food or simply naming your child. (All humans/children are the same so why bother labeling them? Actually, if we are all the same then why classify us all as “humans” to begin with?)
Not trying to start an argument…just trying to bring some interesting and thought provoking questions and view points to the table. Nothing is in any real order or anything. Just like creating more discussion for ya’ll ![]()
America itself is a divided country. Hasn’t it always been?
The basic meaning of diversity is this:
Diversity
the state of being diverse; variety.
Meaning that diverse people are simply people who are different. Various. Not only races, genders, sexualities, or religions. Those are minor differences that we already have. The reason why we’re so divided with these differences is because we refuse to overcome ignorance. You’re not wrong, though, and I agree with your questions/statements.
Of course, there is always division in families. At this moment, though, Americans seem to be more polarized in like every way. We used to be able to agree on a lot of things and we can’t agree on those things anymore. Free speech, for example. We all used to be like, free speech. Okay, cool. I didn’t like what you said, but whatever. You have the right to say it and let’s go have a beer together. Lol
Of course, there’s always been exceptions, this is just a generalization and plenty of people will fall out of this generalization, but I myself remember not too long ago when every single person I ever met agreed that you can say whatever you want so long as you aren’t calling violence or infringing on someone else’s rights with your free speech.
There’s more people, I’ve even met irl now, and stories all over the country and elsewhere where people don’t support free speech. They call it something like hate speech. eyeroll
There’s a lot of other examples, but this one makes me feel physically sick. To know that people can be sued or whatever for misgendering someone…-_-
For the most part, though, to be completely honest, I feel like most people at least don’t want to be divided. So most people you meet in person can often be accepting to each other, even when they have different opinions. I meet more people that I can be friends with than people that just hate me because I’m white/bi-racial/black/multi-racial (or whatever the hell we are, XDXD), female, not trans, ace, conservative, Christian or whatever. I have met people that dislike me just for being any number of these things, but they really are a small minority.
My point is that where there is division here, the division is mad! It is undeniably worse than it has been. It takes work from every person to try and fix the problems and call me stupid or optimistic, (because I am stupid and optimistic, XDXD) but I think we can heal from it and be more generally united again. One day ^^
Exactly! The Internet is to blame, as well. There are easily offended people online, and offline. Infringing freedom of speech. Even on here, I’ll admit that. I’m very careful with what I say now. For example, I don’t support the #metoo movement, or the #believewomen movement. I don’t, because it is the opposite of the goals of feminism. Despite being a victim of a sex crime, I still don’t support it. People could easily call me sexist, misogynistic, etc… Simply because I don’t support a movement that is beginning to do more harm than good.
Point being, where did we go wrong? Was division an underlying, or obvious problem? Did it spiral out of control, once Trump became President? Is he to blame? What can we do to fix this, without ensuring the destruction of this already fragile country?
I don’t support those movements either. They really do more harm.
Constantly hating and depicting men as the enemy is not gonna do us any good for us women to be in charge. It stops us women to be in the lead.
Absolutely. It’s reenforcing sexism, by portraying women as helpless victims. We, as feminists, are not moving forward.
Very good questions with very complicated answers. Division has been an increasing problem far before Trump was president. It didn’t get better, but I don’t think it is fair to solely blame any of our presidents for how Americans treat each other. I have wondered where all of this nonsense started and I just don’t really know. Maybe I haven’t done enough research about it. I definitely haven’t done as much as I could or as much as I want.
Individuals all have different ways of understanding things and I think people in general have this problem where they get themselves in an echo chamber, where they have a set of beliefs for whatever reason and have a difficult time getting their ideas to other people. When you’re yelling at people, for example, many people don’t think aggressive attempts at changing minds works. If you’re being yelled at, you don’t really want to listen to what people are saying.
I also don’t think our country will implode. Again, it may just be me being all optimistic and dumb, but yeah, there are too many terrible “movements” these days. I don’t even wanna think about feminism. Literally makes me so angry, feminism. Ugh. >.>
Humans love organization. I do, too. It makes things easy for a couple of reasons. It is a general thing that most all humans do, that is, categorize people by “race”. And it is an indicator of possible culture. Like, I met my roommate who’s Japanese. She understood Japanese culture far better than most people just for living it. When someone claims a label of any kind, I think it is to help people around them to understand something about the person. A few of these labels just don’t need to be mentioned, merely observed. So being light skinned is observable. Having depression is not observable. Gender dysphoria is not observable.
I like the idea that race isn’t a thing, we’re all one human race. The words we use to describe races are simply descriptive but people majorly treat these labels as like a sub-category for the wider term “human”.
Feminism...ugh
I hate feminism. So much. At first, cool, we got our rights. Cool. Feminism has done it’s job in America. It’s time for feminism to die. Feminism isn’t needed anymore in America. Feminism is such a dangerous ideology nowadays. Women aren’t oppressed in America. Women are oppressed in other places, and they need feminism, but like…lol, the “oppression” in America consists of admitting that men and women are different and I just…-_-
I don’t wanna go into it too deep unless someone asks me a question because it literally makes my blood boil. XD
Some people still identify themselves as feminists even if they aren’t like the rest of the feminists. “Not all feminists”, right? But, I feel like if you’re going to be part of this movement, identify here, your movement should not be known for all the horrible nonsense that just laces the ideology.
Men and women are equal. I wish feminism would hurry up and die. So sick of hearing about it and also! I am so sick of people looking at me and assuming I’m a feminist because my hair isn’t a natural hair color. One dude literally saw me with pink hair once and was immediately on guard.
“Don’t worry, I’m not a feminist.” He was sooo relieved and I understand why. I literally feel the same way. Feminism is making the divide between men and women worse in America.
Sorry, that was kinda rant-like. I try to avoid that, but…seriously. Die feminism.
I do believe in women’s rights but I am not a feminist
Sorry if I made you think I was. But disrespecting feminism isn’t right.
Feminism should be in places were rape culture mainly happens and where women are mistreated a lot. Most places outside of America need it
Yes. Agreed. There are plenty of places that need real feminism.
When I say like, “die feminism!” I mean in basically just America. XDXD
I don’t support feminism but I respect their goal. I just think that it’s not helping the community as a whole. Especially the “Black Family.”
Just throwing my opinion. Please simply say I disagree. Not in the mood the argue.
I agree. Feminism for first world countries NOW are really unnecessary. But I cannot deny how feminism helped me and many other women. (I don’t consider USA a first world country)
The extreme feminists only care about problems of the country they live in, and they completely disregard the problems and struggles of women in East. People literally argue about “men-spreading” what the heck is that?! 13 year old girls get married to 60 year old men in Eastern countries, and you care about how men sit in public transportation?! Yuck.
Also, the #metoo movement was created to support women who have been through sexual assault. But the whole #believewomen thing is stupid. Sorry pal, but its INNOCENT TILL PROVEN GUILTY
(Yes we shouldnt erase sexual assault by saying innocent till proven guilty, but you are sometimes able to understand who actually commited the crime and who didnt.)
We can’t always go by “He says, she says”, we need evidence! I know they might be telling the truth but now a days, people misuse that opportunity. A lot of people believe it when women get raped but for men, it’s just “they are a man, they can—“. It’s bad. Plus, some women today lie about their rape allegations.
Yes! Especially so many men get their scholarship taken away because of false accusations! And by spreading false accusations you are damaging people who have been through the process of suing.
