Thanks for breaking it down and explaining. I appreciate that cause now I get where your coming from and your comment as well
Right. That’s illegal to do since the 60s. So…the wage gap is just…LOL it’s just nonsense.
Thanks! I understand it can be confusing.
My point was that people who want to demonise women, POC, different religions, different sexualities… they fit this description. It is understandable, but no less disgusting, that they want to demonise what they dont understand and arent a part of. Human nature is to “other” people
Lies! I’ve been working at my job for more than four years, putting in a lot of work and time and going out of my way countless times to make sure things are done as higher ups desire and some guy got hired with higher pay, without the education background and without a degree (I’m going to school for the field I’m working in and have been taking several classes and I’m a lead teacher).
Not necessarily. There are clever ways around it. Give two people the same job, call the job two different things and pay one more than the other.
Give only one type of person a raise.
Hire women mostly for part-time work. That keeps your diversity quotas up whilst also ensuring women get paid less.
Call one of them a “senior director” and call the other a “directing manager”. Make them do the same work, but they get paid differently.
Put women up for promotions, but insist that the men “just fit the job better”.
There’s always a reason for this sort of thing. I was hired at my job with higher pay because I was more qualified than some other people who have been there for longer.
Just like some other people who are more qualified than me get higher pay.
By the way, if what you’re saying is completely true, it is freaking illegal and you should do something about it. However, if there’s a good reason, you may not like the reason, but seriously, definitely look into it.
Dang sis! I didn’t even think of that. Do you work in corporate? How old are you? You seem mature and well educated.
People less qualified and educated than I am get paid more because I’m young… even when they’ve been at the company for the same amount of time.
Thank you! I work in publishing and I’m doing a Master’s degree. I’m 21
I’ve witnessed it a lot in publishing in particular. Sometimes they even invent useless, pointless jobs for men.
One my boyfriend has seen a lot is hiring interns to do the work normal employees should be doing to pay them less for the same job
“He’s an assistant… she’s an intern.”
They both deliver mail and get coffee.
I’ve noticed that, too. Yes, you don’t like the reason, but the title of the job depends on what you get paid. Some things require more or different experiences and have different things each title has to do. Maybe not even all the time.
And also, yes. If you are younger, even if more qualified, you get paid less. Again, just because you don’t like the reason doesn’t mean it is because they want to pay women less.
If they could get away with hiring women and paying them less for the same job, why wouldn’t companies hire only women?
I feel bad belittling him, but I need to give some context to explain what I wrote:
His job experience = working at H&M the store. He was highered as a lead teacher at a school and got higher pay than me:
I have more experience
I’m more qualified
I’m going to school for this
I’m more educated in the field
I’ve worked here longer
I’m older
This is an example of ageism, actually. We’ve been at work for the same time. I’m more qualified. I’ve been a publishing intern every summer since I was 16. They’re 27 and just started publishing after 500 gap years. They get a different title (doing the same job) and get paid more.
I’m an editorial assistant. They’re an editorial junior. I do the same work, get the same hours, do BETTER and edit QUICKER. They get paid more.
And no, there is no legal reason they get paid more. If I was 18, it would be understandable because minimum wage is lower for 18 year olds.
I don’t think it is belittling to just put it there, nothing wrong with that ^^ Don’t feel bad <3 <3
You can legally try to do something about that if it is happening for no reason. Honestly, I really want you to try and get that settled.
Did you miss the part where I said they do the same job?
The older you are, the wiser, that’s basically common sense. Not only that but
This matters, too. Titles imply different responsibilities. Just because it seems the same even most of the time doesn’t mean it is. Some jobs require different things.
The wage gap is a thing, it’s fact. Men are paid more on average than women despite working the same job. I have loads of sources but icba to reference them all ![]()
I’m talking about qualifications or hours worked, just the average over the year. If someone is more qualified or works more hours then they should be paid more, but sometimes it is women in these positions and they still don’t get paid the same. <3
I should’ve used past tense. It still feels like a present experience. It was my first time experiencing this due to the fact that people rarely reveal their pay to their coworkers. He and the person who hired him got fired ‘cause God don’t like ugly and settles the injustices in my life lol hair flip
wiser? You think wisdom matters more than skill, education and qualification in a job? You think people become wise at the same ages? WOW.
