Discussion: Friends with Benefits, a new featured story

Episode made it have 15 chapters.

Can’t decide if it’s worth wasting my passes on this

Judging from the description of chapter nine, it seems that it is it’s own product now (ie just for using on the romance between MC and
the guy) , but I am scared of Episode would even hint at some of the more problematic bits in the original.
Plus, IDK if MC on the whole is gonna be more likeable

Ugh I’ll take one for the team lol

Lol, though chapter 8 could be different to since it may not be as rushed to get to an ending, so if you haven’t played far yet - Godspeed

Edit: Episode changed a heck load of of stuff throughout the story. I kinda mentally shut down, because there are just a lot of changes and characters are more developed yet just bad

I don’t want to bother reading the first 3 chapters (I already have play throughs that had 3+ chapters), but I noticed there is a lot of new assets from the fourth chapter.

IDK why but I just don’t like the way MC is so presumptuous and has such a one-tracked mind

I can’t believe they removed the option to play as a Boy, wtf, why? We had just 2 gay featured stories, this one and the Rule Breaker one, and they go on to remove the option to play as a man? This is disgusting, lesbians get 999999 stories but gay guys even get the ones we had removed

That is weird.
My first play in this story was a guy MC, and I was playing on from chapter 8 and it was still okay idk

It let’s me continue as a guy too but I wanted to restart it because I didn’t remember anything of the story and it outright makes the main character a girl. I played a bit to see if they moved the option further in the story and still no way to change it. In the old version it immediately gave you the choice as soon as the episode started but here it seems it’s nowhere to be seen, specially since the room already starts as the one the girl choice had.

It could be a bug but since the MC immediatly starts as the blonde girl in the cover I wouldn’t be surprised if they outright removed it so it would look like the one in the art.

Yup, it isn’t a bug. The male MC is referred to with female pronouns, uses the same pajama the entire game since they didn’t add any male outfits and sometimes in some scenes he suddenly turns into the default girl for some reason. RIP.

Man that sucks

But do you choose the gender of the LI Shay?

Nop, you could never change Shay’s gender though. They just did it for the MC, i thought they were going for a pregnancy plot which is why they removed the option, but nop, looks like the author just didn’t want a male protagonist option anymore.

Oh well, at least since she was going to ruin the story by removing the male protagonist and making Aimee pregnant, she went full into it and made it so Hillary Clinton won in the story. Can’t stop laughing, Shay has a Hillary Clinton portrait in his room in the final chapter.

To be fair, it’s safe to assume at least most of the changes are Episode’s doing, since they have rights over the author’s original story.

It is just funny how Episode uses the Damn Hillary poster BG

How was the rest of the story from 8-15 btw?

From reading just a bit of this version, I’m already not liking it, even though technically it is ‘improved’.

Instead of necessarily making MC or the other main cast more likeable or understandable, they just make characters like Ivory very reprehensible. Like in Chapter 4, if you don’t pick the gem choice to have Seven Minutes with Shay, Ivory then asks a violating question about this possible SA in Chapter 1 (I haven’t read the new chapters 1-3) so I have no clue how Episode possibly made it worse.
I guess on one hand, it’s supposed to make Mc’s and the rest’s catty remarks to Ivory logical, but on the other, the energy should be more spent on focusing on Leo’s strife with Ivory and somebody talking to him maturely about it.
The love triangle is a miss for me, though I kinda get it if Shay is supposed to be flawed in the beginning.

How was the rest of the story from 8-15 btw?

For me it was awful, the new boy felt awfully forced and you interact with him like 3 times before you have to pick, meanwhile you have the game clarify over and over how Shay and the MC have known each other for 18 years, so for me it was a no brainer.
Outside of the option to have to pick between Shay or the new boy, the pregnancy plot of Aimee was hilariously awful, she gets pregnant from another guy and refuses to tell her boyfriend, so he hears it from you, months go by and he “mans up” so he’s ready to take care of another’s man child.

It was so unnecessary because the very premise was “More than Friends”, making it a choice between said friend or the new guy didn’t fit the story, the only change that was sort of sweet was how it ends as it began, with you moving next to Aimee and Leo’s house like how your parents did when they were friends. But it wasn’t worth all the new drama, plot and removing the guy choice.

And yes, the MC is so awful it gets funny, the redhead antagonist kisses Shay again, and when the MC hears about it she runs inside and when Shay tries to explain it it was Ryan and not him (literally a day after you kissed the new guy in front of Shay) all the options are:

I hate you just leave!
I hate you just leave!
I hate you just leave!

At least the thing the story has going is that it’s hilarious, yet not intentionally.

Ooohhhh boy, here we go again! :tea: I just came off from reading Why Me? for the gems, and when I was reading the new chapters I was reminded how some of the free choices just makes MC a total a-hole.

The sudden introduction of Brody the Bad Boy was so forced. He was clearly there to stir up drama and be plan B if you really don’t want to date Shay. It peaked at the camping trip starting with Brody inviting himself. Dude, why on earth did you care enough to go on this camping trip?

I thought it couldn’t get any worse than when Aimee got knocked up and didn’t know if the baby was Leo’s or Ajax’s. Apparently, it was too much for a fickle person like Aimee to learn her lesson the first time when she was juggling between two guys. So why not sleep with the other dude when your heart gets hurt from the one you’re supposed to be working on a relationship with?

But NoOOooOOoOOO, what’s hilariously worse than Aimee’s situation in my book is the part where Shay and Brody throw down during the camping trip  The story peaked in ridiculousness for me at that point. Not the bit where Ryan started crap and spread gossip about Shay’s dad having an affair with Brody’s mom. Not even when it was discovered that both parents were having an affair and the crappy dad threatened MC to keep quiet about it. I should’ve taken a screenshot at the part where Shay punched Brody and said it’s Brody’s mom’s fault for seducing his dad (he’s not entirely wrong
). It seemed weird that Shay didn’t mention his dad being an equal participant? I thought I was seeing things when Brody punched back and said that it’s Shay’s mom’s fault for the affair escalating the way it did. Like WTF Brody? That’s a low blow.

About prom, in defense of Shay’s bedroom with the Hillary Clinton poster, it wasn’t even his bedroom anymore at that point. After Shay moved away, he came back and asked the new owners to let him do his promposal from his old bedroom.

Finally, I picked Shay because I had no other reason to pick the other guy. I didn’t like him enough to spend gems to see what the ending is.

so i have it a chance and read the story. personally, i didn’t really enjoy it. the mc was quite rude even narcissistic sometimes, and always kept throwing herself in the middle of the amiee & leo drama. both mc and amiee were really problematic, and they felt like the antagonists to me tbh

shay wasn’t a very appealing love interest, and nor was the second guy, the new guy. the mc and him interacted like twice, (in most of the situations the new guy being uneccessarily rude), and they expect you to like him.

the amount of gem choices was overwhelming, especially in the last chapters where you had to pay for literally anything.

overall it wasn’t a good story. my main issue were the characters. they were these narcissistic, self indulgent people, and wished bad upon their friend’s relationship, which made me dislike them even more.
