We’ve been taught to follow the rules to things only instead of coming up with new ideas . We’ve been steered into a direction where the only thing that matters is a piece of paper that shows that we earned a degree. The only thing that matters in today’s world is education, and unfortunately, that isn’t the case. Creativity has been hidden by education in such a way that kids, teenagers, and also, adults have been taught to only accomplish something realistic. Meaning, you have to be a doctor or a lawyer to be accepted by people. I disagree with that. It doesn’t give people an opportunity to be creative in life because education has been said to be more important. College isn’t for everybody; wanting a degree isn’t in everybody’s bucket list.
So because of this, I feel like creativity has been ignored in the United States to a certain extent. If a person really wants to make their own music or become a chef, they’ll be looked down upon in a sense that those careers won’t get you nowhere in life; which isn’t true. We can’t think outside the box when we’ve been steered into a direction to stay in the box. What are your thoughts?
I agree with this fully. And I couldn’t have said it better. College isn’t for everybody but if we don’t go our parents make up feel horrible about our decision to not go. Schools I feel like don’t offer enough to allow people to creatively explore themselves.
I don’t know I’m from the netherlands and here I feel like they are screaming for creatifity BUT the moment you show it they only show negative points about you’re work! yeah sure I understand that there are things wrong and that not everything I make is perfect and needs some more work but can they also tell me once when I do something right? I feel like that’s so hard in my country and this honestly makes me leak motivation. they don’t tell how you can do better they just say: Ugly! get more creative!
I understand where you’re coming from. It’s nothing wrong with drawing a picture or writing stories; that’s just being creative. Yes, creatively has been ignored, and it’s no longer considered an option. In America, you have a choice: either go to college, get a job or go to the military. There’s no room for creativity🤦🏽♀️
I agree, this world is based off just “paper-intelligence” not based off being an actual intellectual. One of the reasons I wanted to be a lawyer, when I first started, was because I wanted to be respected, but looking at it now… it’s crazy. Law is for me, I am naturally engaged with humanities, but it concerns me that I’m not the only person who followed a career path bases off gaining respect, I’m not surprised why they say the smartest people are the most likely to become depressed.
Unless they get a really rare scholarship, are you guys able to get student loans off the government? In Britain it works like this:
-Secondary school (11-16)
-College (16-18)
-University (18- whenever you graduate)
So your college, is our version of university, meaning we get free education in college as we are under 18, and then pay for University, if that makes any sense.
We are able to get student loans from banks. However, we can get grants and free money from the government if some people are on government assistance.
Depends. I go to a magnet school and there’s many programs focusing on art. At my school there’s graphic design, 3D animation, and game design. I do agree with people ignoring the arts as a whole. I’m currently on the medical path route because it’s a “stable” and “realistic” job, but I really want to be in the entertainment business.
Ohh okay. Is it your dream to go into the medical field? When I first entered into high school, my mind was set on being an RN, but that later changed during my junior year of high school because I don’t want to spend basically my whole life taking rigorous and challenging classes that I probably won’t enjoy.
That is what I get. At first, it was awesome that I got into a magnet school so that I can get a head start in my carrier. Then towards the end of junior year, nearing senior year, I realized that maybe I do not want to be doing this my whole life. So, I am kind of jumping between two careers because um… life is reality. I don’t want to pursue acting and not be able to make a living for myself. It is so difficult.
Yeah I understand. I want to become an author, but people will tell me to go to college for journalism which isn’t really what I want to do to. Being a journalist isn’t that bad of a career to have, but I just want to be able to write books whenever I want.
