You can still put it in romance and then change it to thriller after the contest? 
Iāve seen countless entries in the past not fitting the genre theyāve asked for and ending up being one of the winners. It maybe is something you can think about. 
Iād personally prefer such an entry in a contest like this, as Iām pretty sure what most stories will be aboutā¦

I donāt think thatās allowed. I read the contest entry rules a while back and they said that stories tend to get disqualified from the contest winner shelf if they change major aspects of the plot after getting added. I might just make it a story outside of a contest instead.
That only applies if someone is entering the contest to be on the shelf. After the contest is over, then you can change whatever you want in your story. Many people has done it.

Princess are supposed to be prim proper and have a prince. But when she is caught kissing her female maid the maid is exiled and the princess is hopeless. 2 years later a contest to see who the most eligible prince is, is hosted, what happens when the maid returns?

I honestly think most focus too much on the romance part, while the main focus should be what revolves around the kiss. 
I still wouldnāt put ours in romance, even with the first three chapters, but we made it to the shelf nevertheless!
Personally, Iād be so in for this! Only having a female love interest is not something you see often.
Mc can be both male and female. hmmm
Okay so the MC is working at whateer job you choose for the MC & LL because they are both working at different positions and the LL has a girl/boy friend, but the LL doesnāt feel the same about their girl/boy because either their asking for money or using them fo rmoney or just being annoying idk, lol, so the LL finds someone which is the MC but canāt get distracted or else remove from job, so the LL ex finds a way to end the good relationship between the MC and the LL, by doing blah blah andblahā¦ hmmmmm
this can be for jobs, online meeting, traveling, ehā¦hmmm
using writing prompts will be easier to think of what you want to write about for the contest.
