I hate it when influencer does that and act like they didn’t know it would happen. It’s crazy they get thousands of good comments but see one bad and loose their shit and send their fans
It’s extremely pathetic and childish
I agree with everything you said.
I’m certainly against of spreading misinformation but Episode could have probably avoided this if their guidelines were clearly worded in the first place. Certain parts of the guidelines are very specific, why are all the other parts so vague?
Please don’t tell me that this crossover and punching rule is not that deep. I know that. The real problem is that Episode states those rules were always there while no one ever heard about them, and they started doing that by sending out private e-mails to authors instead of communicating it publicly. I’m not surprised this caused drama and I’m not surprised this made confusion. I’m just disappointed. But I really hope this will at least raise awareness on the communication issues, which I think exist on both sides.
YES. Thank you for this. Finally someone else is seeing the real problem. It’s miscommunication that matters. Not the punching rule or crossover rule.
I definitely think it should be outlined specifically in the guidelines. But, I don’t think that specific information would have lessened the risk of people spreading misinformation.
Episode gave us no indication they were favoring LL authors over Ink, and they explained to us the reason why they were no longer going to update it. It still didn’t stop people from lying about it.
Even if Episode made their guidelines more clear, I believe there will be authors who edit their emails to suit their narrative.
After all, there are people who (somehow) never saw the guidelines regarding sexual
content and violence, and somehow got the idea that they’re brand new.
I think this depends largely on context. It’s one thing to have a father named Peter. It’s another to have him named Peter Griffin in the story. Or naming him after an actual brand, like Shrek.
Say it louder.
It would at least prevent an outrage as big as this one, because people could simply point out the guidelines. Nevertheless, it still has to be written in the guidelines correctly, not in some thread’s replies.
Like I said, it was just a cover who started all of the “They are favoring Limelight!!!” comments. INK fans choose to take it like that, not everyone.
The son is named Dean and the father is named John… it’s a Supernatural reference. I’m not sure how far it goes in the story, but after saying “yes” to one author’s title that’s same as a movie, you shouldn’t say “no” to another author’s character.
Fair, but the when the author showed this rejection, they were creating a narrative.
Do we even know for sure that they were identical? You mentioned they weren’t even shared. To me, that seems intentional. I’d also wonder if this really, truly was the case, did they reach back out to the team? Ask them why the cover for LL was approved while the cover for Ink was rejected? And did they get a response back?
I completely agree that miscommunication is an issue, and that Episode really needs to improve in this regard, but authors who share the emails telling us about what’s going on with them are still choosing what we get to see, thus setting the narrative
Yeah…copyright doesn’t protect names, titles, slogans, or short phrases. I would need to read the story myself, but the fact that it was a reference to Supernatural might have been enough to get a report, as we’re not supposed to have references to those kinds of characters.
I’m not sure what movie you’re referring to, but I get the idea Episode is largely driven by context. Titles usually aren’t protected by copyrights, which is why you might see movies or books with the same name unless the titles are trademarked. If they approved an author’s title, it’s probably because it wasn’t protected as such.
That’s not to say that Episode isn’t at fault, but I do think the community is has a tendency to be reactionary.
Sorry.
I know its hard but we can’t spill all the tea unfortunately
That’s true. Every time I mention certain authors I get flagged…
Definitely, I agree with that. That person never showed any of the covers, it could easily be something else. But like I said; most times people shared emails to express their joy (eg. “My story is gonna be featured”) or to inform others (eg. “Missed connections contest advices”). There are people who have those ill intentions, but I don’t think sharing emails is always bad.
Yeah, that’s why I think the “no one is a saint”. There was a misunderstaing about the punch rule and a miswording in the crossover rule, but the outrage was still unnecessary. And, between you and me, people just created that strike for INK, no one really cares about the crossover as I see from the screenshots they share now, lol.
That’s true, and not everyone is going to share emails with malicious intent.
But the footer at the bottom is still the same, even if the content is neutral or positive. There’s a reason they want us to keep it confidential.
Yeah, doesn’t surprise me. I did notice yesterday that some people were saying “yay they listened! I’m going off strike y’all.” Even though Episode didn’t do anything lol. Some people are still going pretty hard though, even though Ink has already been explained on Instagram lol. I guess it’s pride.
It’s just people that want to be mad at something and following like a sheep without doing any research this whole outrage is stupid and they will be back playing episode soon
Definitely! The miscommunication planted the seed for misinformation, just like @ELx said. I think a lot of times people like to point the blame on one person rather than seeing the whole picture. I’m really glad I made this thread, you’ve all made great points
Adding to the miscommunication there is the fact that some INK lovers still can’t accept that it won’t be updated and want to play the victim card . So they use every opportunity to have drama hoping ink will be updated but the team at episode are not stupid if they let them have this they will just want more and more
It seems like people are afraid of change.
Whether or not ink was being removed, there’s still a good style that’s gonna surpass it very soon.
Ink might have more animations and more clothes, but ink’s not gonna get any more of those.
Soon enough, those hardcore fans of ink won’t have any message to prove that ink is better than limelight.
Don’t get me wrong, neither are perfect and I like both styles. However, I feel as though these diehard fans of ink should get used to this change. Ink’s not gonna disappear, but there won’t be many stories left with ink.
Ending this with a dead meme:
Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
Iconic.
