So obviously the main ‘purpose’ of race-swapping is to make the overall story look more diverse. But just thinking about it today, it could be also to make it … less ‘racist’.
For example, in the FWB story Friends with Benefits there are only up to 2-3 BIPOC, including the crazy girlfriend of one of the LI (Ivory), one who usually gets unnecessary hate and harassment from a default white main cast.
But then the featured version More than Friends (or Catching Feelings, but nah I much prefer the first one) have the best friend characters Aimee and What’s-His-face be Black and East Asian respectively, as well as make Ivory Asian. The bullying is still there, but in a twisted sense, it doesn’t seem as much racially-motivated since the main cast looks more diverse … which
