As far as I have seen a lot of authors do. 
But there are some exeptions. But even if authors do win they abandon their story, or maybe update a chapter or two and that’s it (e.g. a couple of stories in Adventurous, Queer, Squad contests). Which is sad, because there are good stories where I’d love to see what happens past 3rd or 4th chapter
