Hey! I know the title is a little confusing, I’ll explain:
When reading a story that uses the point system or any other system that makes the choices matter, are you interested in knowing what you missed if you had more points?
For example in a situation where A>B = one scene and B<A = another scene
Would you like to go smoothly to that scene or would you like to be informed that if you had more points you could’ve had this other scene?
Hope I’m not rambling lol
no I dont. it take away from the choice. and I would been told I miss something because of it
Nah, I personally believe it takes away from the choices and throwing in both scenes would most likely confuse the readers.
Although, that’s a different story if it’s the end of the story where we have the option to view the multiple endings.
Maybe add the choice towards the end of the chapter where we can view how many points we have or just leave the mystery vibe? lol
I like the option to see it: “would you like to see what would have happened if you chose X?”
That way, if I tapped to fast or am just curious, I can see it.
But I like feeling confident in my choices, too- and that option ruins that for me.
Hard to say! Depends on the situation, I suppose.

I didn’t really mean showing both scenes, I agree that would completely take away the whole concept of the point system or that choices matter, but more like getting a locked choice.
For example something I’m using in my story that has two love interests during a dance scene;
If A>B = you dance with A but the choice to dance with B is locked (the readers know that MC is dancing with A because of their previous choices)
If B>A = you dance with B for the same reason above
If A=B = you get to decide who you wanna dance with
Locked choices make me frustrated. Once or twice, I’ve clicked out of stories because I haven’t gotten the opportunities I wanted. I’m annoying like that, haha.
I don’t mind seeing “due to your previous choice…” messages, but I don’t like knowing that I have another option that’s very simply unattainable.
a locked choice is fine for me. but only if the choice is locked because of another choice I made. if its just locked because I actually dont wanna give me a choice
thought I do think unleash I actually can end up having both unlocked you should not make a choice and instead do the if command instead
Hmm interesting One one hand I like not knowing because it enhances my perception that my choices have shaped the story, but sometimes I see spoilers on authors Instagram that show me what could have been? I guess I feel more inclined to reread if I know what I’ve missed. I like knowing my choices matter, so if you’re considering telling your readers what could have been I don’t think you should do it in the story, but maybe Instagram or whatnot.
Yeah, I kind of like that idea of locked choices.
I would advise to put it after readers get to know both love interests. leave the spoilers on social media.
I think a locked choice would be a good way to let the reader know—I’d like that, but not to be outright told about different scenes in narration, if that makes sense.
If there’s a bonus scene that you either do or don’t see based on choices, then I’d like to know whether or not I unlocked it.
I personally don’t. And as an author, I don’t like to offer it either. It’s Episode: Choose your own story, not Episode: See what could have been
It depends on what kind of choice/ moment it is. If you have multiple endings, then it would be great to see as many endings as possible, because I won’t reread a story just to see another ending.
But if it’s something that reveals information, which you wouldn’t get if you didn’t unlock that scene, then I wouldn’t want to see it, because it would ruin the story for me.
I don’t want to know exactly the scene I could’ve gotten, though I think reader messages like “you gained x’s trust” and the like really help illustrate to people that stuff is happening behind the scenes with your points system. If there’s multiple endings, I would like to see what could’ve been.
Maybe you’d prefer creating a menu? So readers could “replay” a chapter before moving on to the next one. Vaena has a tutorial here if you’re interested:
I don’t like that.
I also don’t like when “better” choices are marked.
