I honestly don’t enjoy reading “you” stories. I’m not down with putting myself into stories so when they do allow customization, I usually just go with the default and make up some random name. If a story doesn’t have customization, it doesn’t bother me at all because I like reading another person’s story. Choices don’t bother me much either, but I’m an avid actual book reader and did like a few “choose your own adventure” books. But would I customize Harry Potter if it were an Episode story? Likely not. I like seeing what the author envisions. Just my personal opinion.
As a POC in regards to diversity, I think it’s great when included, but for historical fiction: I don’t think stories need to add diversity at the expense of historical accuracy.
