I wanted to ask if you guys regularly edit your Recommendations section on your Episode profile in the app. When I say regularly, I mean like every couple of weeks or so, depending on how much you read on the app.
I know the profiles aren’t generally used often, but sometimes when I want to read a story but I don’t want to go to the trending sections because most of the stories there aren’t really my type, I go to the profiles of people I know have similar reading tastes to my own.
Unfortunately, many of them don’t regularly update their profile and they (unintentionally) keep stories they wouldn’t actually recommend (anymore).
I wanted to ask if you guys do the same, or if you have a different method of finding stories (except In-tagram).
Do you mean like rotation or fixing?
I don’t rotate my featured stories but I did go back and get rid of some stories I thought I loved and then re-read and wondered what I was thinking
Yes. Mostly because when I read a really good story it bumps up the threshold for recommendation.
I also periodically trim the list of Big Authors who don’t need my promotion. I prefer to use whatever platform I have to boost the less boosted. Once you’re on the What’s Hot or other promotional rows on the app, you don’t need my help, and I’d rather make room for those that did.
ETA: As for finding new stories, when someone follows me on the app I check to see what they’ve published. If it looks like something I’m interested in, I’ll bookmark it for later. My screen time tolerance is increasing, but there’s also a phone battery and time factor. I wish the app was also available on desktop.
I get DM’ed all the time with “please read my story” messages, and I try to give them each a chapter read. If I’m into the story, I may continue, but that being said, there are stories I have on my recommends and favourites that have new chapters out I haven’t had time to get to yet and I really want to read those. I stopped doing R4Rs a while ago because I don’t have the time to read them all once everyone starts piling on, and a lot of times I didn’t get many reads back in return.
No, I don’t because I still have many stories to read that I have appandoned so I need to read those before finding new ones that I would put on the profile. I only have one and I only use the reccomend so can find them for myself so I don’t have to go digging in my favourites.
Yes, I do that pretty much every time I find a story worthy of my recommendations shelf (not that everyone else’s stories are bad or anything.) I just added one today!
I do like every 6 weeks or so, when I like a story I’m reading I’ll add it, but I’ll admit there was a period of like 5 months where I forgot about my recommends.
